                              - GOODBYE ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆ . are these volatile times ?

How long had it been? A month? The days just seemed to drag by, lucky for Conner, the weather wasn't cold. It was still summer, he didn't need to wear a lot of layers, it was something he hadn't thought about when leaving. Now he - they - were in New York. He could tell by all the skyscrapers, tall buildings. Thousands of cars littered the streets, all empty, unless there was something in it; but it was likely that it wasn't alive. Thinking about it now, his head was more clear. If he had more time - or panicked less - he could have grabbed more needed items; clothes, medicine, anything really. But Conner had just left his house, deciding to leave as soon as he could.
He had a family, before all of this. Conner was on the softball team, a great hitter, and an even better thrower. Before, he was hoping to get a scholarship to his dream college, but now, that probably wasn't going to happen. Baseball suddenly didn't matter anymore, nothing did really, not even his dead family. Two parents and and three younger siblings, two sisters - eight and nine - and a younger brother, seven. They were the reason he left. He could still remember it fairly well, not too vividly - thank God.

Conner had come home from practice, the time was six pm, and the house was empty. He searched the whole thing, running around worriedly before heading into the backyard - where he found them. His father laid on the floor, or at least, just his limbs; the rest of his family tore into him. Conner barely managed to escape, he was so surprised that he fell, and to make it worse they turned to him. The only thing he could think of to do, was run. He didn't know what was going on, and the first place he went to was his best friends house. Again, probably not the smartest choice, but he wasn't thinking too clearly.
Somehow they were stuck together, wandering around. News teams tried to present the news as best they could, but were eventually phased out. Now, when you turned on a t.v. all you got was a black screen, a static one, or a blue one that let off an annoying buzzing sound. The radios had also phased out, and there was no way to call for help. Conner almost thought it was ironic, everyone was so reliant on technology, yet in a time like this, it couldn't help them.

Conner's shoes scraped against the pavement as he dragged them, his left hand holding a bat. Luckily, he found it, and the answer on how to get rid of those things. Apparently, they had gotten some sort of virus and would eat anything alive. There was no reasoning with these people, and a single bite could spread the 'disease'. The only known cure, was to destroy the brain; how retched.
The town was pretty silent, which was making him on edge. It was easier if you could hear them, then you knew to run. Conner was getting antsy now, he wanted to go into a building, but what if it was only filled with more of them? They hadn't ran into anyone alive in a while, and it was starting to feel as if they were the last people on Earth. The boy wondered what the government was doing, all the politicians who ran the country, if they weren't already dead they had probably hidden and barricaded themselves off.

"We have to go somewhere, right? Get food...or water - something." His voice sounded gruff, to which he took his free hand and rubbed it across his face. Conner was a mess, he hadn't showered in a while and really, it was on the bottom of his priority list; but he'd still liked to get clean. The boy cleared his throat, talking to the only other person who was left with him - Skylee.

ooc ;; Sorry for the seriously bad starting point and short length ; a;

TEEHEE]This couldn't be happening. Could it? This was the types of things that one would see in movies. The end of the world. The end of human decency and sanity that was barely able to keep the would together. In just a month, things had turned for the very worse. Everything she had ever over was gone and was replaced by sorrow, anger, death and pain. A part of the woman was just been hoping that what had happened in the past was all just a dream and she was just sleeping soundlessly. But she hadn't woken up yet. Not yet. And she was starting to believe not ever...

TEEHEE]Just a month before, a terrible plague like epidemic had struck the country (the world even?) causing the death to rise and crave anything that was covered in flesh and filled with blood. The only known cure was a blow through the noggin. If there was no some type of whole through the head of the creature, somehow, it would always come back. A single bite from those terrible creatures would spread to in inevitable demise. It was a death wish. The things she had witnessed, she would never be able to un-see. Such things were burned into her brain that would surely make a grown man weep.

TEEHEE]A month before Skylee had a family. She had a life that she loved and cherished. And ever did she expect such God awful things to occur in such a small amount of time. She would forever remember the first day of the epidemic that would change her life forever. Skylee had just arrived home after her work day had finished at some small clothing store. The front door was ajar and upon entering, blood was struggle want painted on the walls and floor... The floor. On the floor, her eyes laid onto her mother, crouched over her little brother's lifeless body. His innards were spread across the hardwood flooring. She gasped; that was her first mistake. She should have ran. But making that noise up roared the... creature that was her mother. It felt like she hadn't been able to move fast enough. She ran... to anyplace of shelter, which happened to be a near closet.
Her father was a firefighter and big of safety. He kept supplies and such in the closet... the closet which held an axe. Skylee was afraid. She grabbed the handle and struck. Her mother fell.

TEEHEE]Afterward, she had just huddled over within the corner of her closet. And cried. At the time she didn't understand and she was afraid. How could this be happening? She thought. This couldn't be real, she believed. But it was. Not after long... her best friend came. It happened to him as well. He ran straight to her house? And there were more, he said. They grabbed what they could. He had a bat of his and she an axe; with that they left. To anywhere in particular. Anywhere safe. Her mother and brother were gone, but as to where her father was, she did not know.

TEEHEE]Safety was their priority. Safety and anything to keep them nourished and alive. They had three weapons now. A bat, axe and a handgun. They found the gun after trifling through a fellows house as they searched for safety one night. Now they were in New York. As they entered, she eyes the large buildings that would touch the sky. It was a sight to see, especially with everything being... so empty. Emptiness and silence. How could this be, though?

TEEHEE]The silence is what was eating at the girl. She would shoot an occasional glance behind either of the friends caused by her paranoia. Skylee hated the silence. Where were... they? The killing creatures that ate anything with a pulse? Perhaps they were more concentrated within the city, seeing as the two were just upon the edge. Or with the city being just made of monstrous buildings, they could be trapped within? Nevertheless, her guard was up. As her thin fingers held onto the straps of her backpack. Sky had found the backpack and managed to throw whatever of their supplies that they found into it.

                                              TEEHEE]They didn't have much.

TEEHEE]The young adult wet her chapped lips as Eric had brought the subject of water up. She fished back itno a pocket of the backpack that was strapped to her and pulled out a granola bar. It was summer. And they were in new york. It was hot, lucky she didn't wear many layers. Her chocolate eyes looked the small snack over and allowed a discontent breath to escape her lungs."Yeah." Her quiet tone murmured in reply to him. "Something." Her ran a hand through her messy dyed bangs. They had to go somewhere. They shouldn't wonder the streets. They were in the open and she felt unsafe.

TEEHEE]She held what little of the granola bar that was let out to Eric as an offer. "We shouldn't be out in the open, Eric. I don't feel safe." She pointed out. Surely she couldn't have been the only one. "Perhaps there's something in these... buildings?" Her free hand motioned to the impossible rows of buildings that lined the streets and surrounded them. Sky then just shrugged. She... she didn't know. What to do. They did not really have any sorts of plans ahead for them. None whatsoever.

                              - GOODBYE ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆ . are these volatile times ?

The time was still before noon, at least Eric thought so. It was a good thing really, the sun wasn't too high in the sky, and thus not too hot. The tall skyscrapers also made a good shield, but the heat stayed trapped into the pavement and rose a bit. So, while it wasn't hot, it was warming up. Eric was still mingled in his baseball uniform, he wore the baseball shirt but managed to find some pants at an abandoned place. His weapon was gripped in his left hand, holding it steady in fear that if it hit against something it would make a sound. Anything attracted those things, it was almost as if they just knew where people were - like some sort of instinct. Eric was momentarily distracted, or rather the 'norm' of things now. He wasn't really looking at the person next to him, or listening either. Instead he had been surveying the area, head constantly turned while his eyes looked. Everything made him jumpy, except the familiar tone of his friend. "What?" Eric turned, jaw set as he saw her food - which really was just a snack. Why even bother offering it up? He supposed that was the good part of her, she was nice, but it was still a feeble attempt. Eric was hungry, but not starving, he wasn't about to just take the last - of what he assumed - to be her stock.

The boy just lifted his right hand, putting it up and turning his head away from her. This time he was listening to her more, trying to rethink back on her first statement to see if she said anything important. But after a minute of trying, he gave up. "No," his voice came out weird, a bit more forceful than he would like. "They could be in there, right? It would just be like, trapping us." Really, he didn't like talking about them. Eric had yet to call them by what they were, or supposedly, zombies. Sure, he said it in his head a few times, but never out loud. It was almost scary to do that, because if he said it, it was as if it somehow confirmed it. The boy had seen his share of scary movies, even a few zombie ones. The apocalypse happened, people died, a hero rose from the ashes with a courageous crew and killed a few of them. Towards the end, most everyone would survive, and the government would concoct some sort of cure - hurrah! The end.
But would that really happen? This wasn't a movie, and all the news was gone. Was there even a government anymore? Police stopped roaming the streets, ambulances were uncalled for. The survivors could only depend on themselves, for how long though?

Skylee was right though, sooner or later they would have to go into a building - infested or not. To find supplies, to barricade up and sleep in. It was just, he was so unsure on what place to pick. Every building seemed daunting, and the silence only made it more so. He wished for a map, it would be nice in this situation, even one of just New York. With a map they could see where stores are, pharmacies, food-marts - anything. Right now, they were just walking around aimlessly. "I mean, you're right. Sooner or later, we have to get outta the streets. It's just, I guess I rather do it later."
He didn't know if he had to explain himself, why he didn't want to hurry out of the streets. He supposed, that she would understand a bit, even if she didn't feel the same way. Eric wasn't gung-ho, about going in, that wasn't to say she wasn't either but before all of this, he was a pretty forward kid. In college he had a plethora of friends - most of which are now gone - he signed up for activities, and was just generally busy. Now, his whole life was flipped, changed. Nothing would be the way it used to be, and this fact bothered him. Eric lost a lot of his energy, and will.
                                                "So, where should we start?"

ooc ;; Sorry that I've been out of commission for a long time! Finals really got to me at school, and didn't give me a chance to log on. It's also, sort of, the reason why this post is so short. I've been gone for this roleplay for a while, and I really just wanted to quickly post again rather than keep it delayed. Sorry it's so bad, I wish I could reread it and correct everything.

TEEHEENormality was a thing of the past. And a part of Skylee all and completely queasy at the thought of it. Everything she had come to known had completely gone to pure and utter hell and a half. How would life continue on after this? Was this... outbreak of the living dead going on within other countries or waas it just their own? How well established had this been going on? She didn't know. How bad were the other states that surrounded them? Perhaps some had been maintained. Or was all sanity just a thing of the past?

TEEHEEShe was a fan of horror flicks. She had seen them all. She had seen every scenario and outcome and there come one of three outcomes. The triumphant hero surpasses all challenges flung at him. He would win some and lose some, but finally, in the end, he surpassed all expectations and everything would return back to normal. But, how could this be? surely nothing could be established as normal after the number of deaths and kills have raised. 'Normal' would never some again.
Second: death. In the end, was death. The hero would sacrifice himself or just ultimately die in the end. Hope would be gone and the movie would end right then and there. Gosh how she hated those types of movies with a passion. But in all reality, it was the most realistic of all the outcomes. Especially in their current situation, but she tended to stay positive in the current mood of things... She still believed. She still hoped. She still waited. She was still alive and as was her best friend. If they had come so far, this had to mean some right? Right...
And as for the third was... something that set her imagination on it's own free ride. Cliff hangers. Where the end would just cut at some suspicious moment and let the the spectator decide on their own how things would end for them. Those types of movies would draw you in and allow one to decide for themselves what type of ending they would most prefer. Their general outlook in life brought the ending that best suited them. Ah yes, Sky much appreciated those endings.

TEEHEEBut this was real life. This wasn't some preposterous movie, though it felt as so. And it pained her. How would things be in a year from now? Would they still be around; would the world; would any hint of sanity? She dreamed so. Things couldn't just... end like this. Could it? The young adult just needed to stop thinking all together. It was really just bumming her mood. She flew a soft breath passed her full lips and just tucked the snack away into her backpack. Well, she was just trying to be helpful. What she had stashed away in that backpack strapped to her, was for either of them. They were in this together whether they liked or not and she wasn't at all complaining. She wouldn't have chosen... anyone else.

TEEHEEThey trusted each other and they had known one another for quite some time. He was better than some total and complete stranger, and that was for certain. Then Eric spoke again, but her eyes stayed to their surroundings. She still disliked this. A pulled her ax from where she looped it into the backpack strap - for easy access of course. Sky could... understand where her friend was coming from. Was outside safer? Or was inside? both had their perks and both had their weaknesses. But they would have to settle for some times... They honestly had no plan. That could ultimately be their down fall. They needed to address that, sooner or later. She preferred sooner.

TEEHEEHer slender fingers scratched the inside of her wrist that held her means of defense. The only noise that surrounded them were the clacking of their steps on the concrete. It echoed only softly off the empty, spaced buildings that they passed by. "I understand what you mean..." Her tone was soft and it held just a sense of concern. A concern for them. They had not a clue where they were, where a thing was, or what their next step would be. ... and what he said next pertained to such. His eyes lowered to the ground before taking quick glances. "Well," she started, "Perhaps we could find... a store of some kind. A little mart? Some... have lofts above where the owners live... Well, as I've seen in some movies." Skylee explained to her companion. She had been thinking of such things as they walked now and again because she was certain setting up some plan would come down to the point. They were not the ones to strike up a particular conversation so she had to come up with something to entertain herself. Sky continued, "Um... usually... stores such as that have foods that take some time to perish. It would have a decent supply of some foods and other things, I feel. ... and... if we do things right, it could be a more permanent stay for us. It will give us a place for rest for a short while and would give us time to... survey the area?" She suggested. Then just shrugged. Though, she wasn't certain Eric would be all for staying in the city for a small while. But it was all just for giving them time to rest and gather supplies before they ventured off once again.

TEEHEEHer hazel eyes caught a glance of something in the distance. And she lifted her free hand a pointed to a building of decent size. It wasn't so tall compared to the other surrounding sky-touching buildings. It would.. be easy to maintain. Possibly. It looked to be a little convenience store. Had a bit of everything? The buildings that surrounded had fire escapes that would give them access to any major escaped if they would become trapped - heaven forbid. For once, she being such a movie advocate, was actually paying off. One point for the Miss Skylee Declan. "There? It would... also... give us roof access. As far as I know... those creatures cannot exactly climb." Then she just dropped her hand and just shrugged flatly. It sounded like a decent idea to she out loud... unless Eric has any better of a plan.
