He stood still, knees slightly bent, bracing for the impact of ghostly skull against his sternum. When it hit, the demon smiled. Jove had come right to him.

His fist rose to meet the boil, and the power behind his punch almost made him feel bad for his opponent. He couldn't muster much sympathy, however. It had really worked, at least as far as he could tell. For the very first time, things hadn't gone wrong.

West could almost hear the soft singing of a choir of fallen angels.

Jove didn't realize his mistake until it hit him, literally. The blow struck his ribs with a very noticeable cracking, whatever ghostly bone Jove had in his ephemeral body gave way like dry twigs. The pup staggered, shocked. He clung to West's shirt, so he didn't fall over.

But... what were the body's sound effects to a ghost?

The pup clung for a second reason. His own FEAR began to stir, and the air was suddenly filled with a soft cloud of pale particles. Spores. And with his delicate fingers entwined in the demon's shirt, West was at ground zero.

A couple of seconds passed, and soon West began to wonder if that choir he thought he had heard was actually comprised of bees. Awful little stinging things that flew into your nose and mouth and bit every patch of skin they could reach in there until you were dead.

"What did you..." He coughed once, but it wasn't enough. "Get... gghuuuk..." West pushed Jove away, but the motion didn't have much force behind it. "Damn... ghosts..." They didn't have to breathe. Recovering would have been a whole lot easier if he could have just gotten some clean air into his lungs.

Jove wheezed a little, still trying to clear his head after that previous blow as he staggered backwards, out of the little cloud of spores he had created. Thankfully for West, they were short-lived, and settled to the ground quite quickly.

The pup found his footing, and tentatively reached out around himself with invisible tendrils, trying to draw in FEAR to heal himself. But whether his insides were still reeling from that blow or whether it was too soon after his previous FEAR attack, he didn't feel any better...

His coughing faded. His irritation did not.

When he saw Jove hesitate, West pulled some more FEAR to him, just a little bit, and rushed at the ghost, peppering him with several well-placed, stinging strikes. It wasn't the strongest attack, but at least it was something.

Jove growled and tried to block the blows, but West was too fast and too practised. The demon had clearly been using his fists to great effect as long as Jove had been biting ankles. He let out a little wheeze, but refused to be driven back.

As long as he was within striking distance, his opponent was within range of his teeth.

"Wait wha—s**t!" West pushed the pup away as Jove tooth-mauled him. He didn't have a problem with the full-on destruction of his clothing, but when the only damage was a couple of little gnaw marks he knew he would be tempted to keep the stuff around rather than throw it out like he should. All of that was difficult to convey in the middle of a fight without sounding like he'd lost his mind, so he swung his fist again instead.

Back off the threads, kid.

Jove was knocked back momentarily by the strong blow, this was something he would have to learn someday. Attacking without teeth and claws... It probably relied on more strength than he had in him at the moment, but he could learn.

But now wasn't the time to lose his focus. Sidestepping in an attempt to get around West's guard, he leaped back in and tried to sink his teeth into somewhere more vulnerable than just an arm.

West grit his teeth as Jove's sank into the upper part of his shoulder, mere inches away from his jugular. He didn't yell, in fact it was a startlingly silent struggle at first. Eventually, however, the demon began making some sort of elongated bellow that sounded like he was shouting with his mouth closed.

The real yell he finally produced was thoroughly incoherent, but whether he planned it that way or it and everything that followed were a bunch of terrible mistakes would remain up for debate. West released his FEAR with the best of intentions, but instead of hitting the ghost, the projectile punch rebounded on him. He was forced backward a handful of feet, and when he lost his balance and hit the gym's floor, he did so with the back of his head. Again.

"Hey, hey, don't shoot," he muttered, several specks of blood dripping from his neck onto the ground. West closed his eyes, the dopey grin on his face melting away as he apparently... went to sleep?

Jove experienced a moment of triumph as his teeth latched on near West's neck. He could feel the demon's struggles, but held on with fierce determination. Even when the muffled roar erupted into a real shout, Jove held on, growling through the blood in his mouth.

He was entirely unaware that West had unleashed his FEAR attack, only that there was a slight struggle and then they were falling backwards. Jove's firm grip pulled him down on top of the demon. When he finally let go, it was only because the top of his head thumped roughly against the ground.

The little ghost snorted, and wiped the blood from his mouth. Had he won? West wasn't getting up, he must have!

The feeling of triumph welled up in him again, until he realized West really wasn't getting up. Jove gave him a little push. Hesitantly, like he was trying to wake him up. And then a bigger shove, right on the chest. "West!" he barked, the british accent and the worry evident in his voice.

There was a voice, a little voice that sounded more like a bark than a boil. West might have ignored it had it not been accompanied by a none-too-gentle shove to his chest. Instead he groaned and forced his eyes open. Jove? Right. He'd been fighting with Jove. Had that voice been his? Nah.

West felt fine, sort of. Sure, his shoulder stung like a b***h, but things like that had rarely bothered him much before. He wanted to get up in theory, but it was a lot easier to just lie here. When he even thought about standing up, it made him want to barf.

"Yeah, I'm okay," he mumbled. "Good fight, man." His eyes shut again, but this time West swallowed and pushed himself up onto his elbows. "There. Fine." He tried to smile. It looked more like a grimace.

Jove made a little growling noise, which quickly tapered into something sounding more like a whine. Was the demon really okay? He gave West a hard look. You don't look fine, the expression said. Maybe he should go get Levi, and she could carry him to his room...

The little ghost didn't want to leave West on his own, so he remained sitting on the demon's midsection, looking like the world's tiniest hunter guarding his spoils.

"Hey. None a'that." He wasn't a baby. There would be no sympathy whines for this demon. "Only reason I'm not movin' is 'cause yer sittin' on me." It wasn't entirely true, but it would be by the time the other boil moved. West wasn't going to let himself get carried around like some purse dog again, not while he was still conscious.

"I'll jus'... go back t'my room an' wrap this up," he said, nodding slightly at his shoulder. And if it proved to be too difficult, that's when he would call in the ghoulfriend. Not before. Hmph.
