The silent doe flinched as she heard breaking and smelled decay and blood. Her sensitive ears were pinned back, trying to muffle the loud, abrasive sound, but to no avail. Eventually, her curiosity got the better of her, as it usually did, and she slowly, carefully, started her way toward the sound of carnage.
She peeked through the foliage when she could barely stand the sounds any longer, and saw a creature that made her heart clench and her breath stay in her throat. It was kin, but not altogether kin. It was....something else, and though she'd met strange creatures before...this one was...different.

How frustrating it was to have a minuscule splinter of bone stuck between two teeth! Flesh growled gutturally. The sound, not unlike his scales being scraped against stone, was pure and unabashed frustration at both the offending bone and the fact he had to take time out of his meal to try and remove it. Flesh lifted his head from what was once a boar and stretched his neck, leveling his head perpendicular to the carcass' chest cavity. With his head turned to the side, the dragonbuck dragged his face along the jagged and open remainder of the boar's chest wall in an attempt to dislodge the bone-
and that's when he saw her.
Pure and silent, hanging on the edge of the haphazardly-made clearing with curiosity-tinged apprehension in her eyes. Where she was pristine and white, he was covered all over with dirt, blood, and only the Motherfather knew what else. The doe was soft and Flesh was harsh. His growl rose from irritated to threatening, launching itself like a predatory animal at the wide-eyed female.
"What are you staring at?"

She watched as he sated himself in greedy fervor, flinching at the crunch of the poor creature's bones and grimacing as her stomach roiled from the disgusting display. She could smell the death and the start of decay from the carcass.
He was so....hard. She had no scales, except the one on her shoulder, and he was made of nothing but. She almost didn't understand, but she mostly didn't mind how others looked like, the strange merely peaking her curiosity. He shone like a rock gleaming in the sun after being doused in water, but he wasn't a rock. He moved like a predator, like the caimans she heard about, but never had the chance to see. He might have been handsome, if not for his face being covered in his murder.
She didn't flinch as he spied her, having known it was inevitable even in her silent state, but her eye-scales arched upwards as he stood and turned aggressively towards her. Did he find her threatening? She hadn't made a move towards him, nor his prize, so he couldn't think she wanted it. She hadn't growled or moved to attack, but he wasn't on the defensive anyway. So what right had he to speak so harshly to her? She rose to her full height, though it wasn't much higher than she'd stood before, and leveled her chin high. Her defiant gaze met his and her voice remained unused as she stared, still and silent, at the challenging, unusual buck.

Greedy fervor it had been indeed, before such a rude and unwanted intrusion had distracted him from his meal. Flesh's nostrils flared as he breathed in deeply the scent of death, metallic and sharp and wonderful, which the doe seemed so put off by. The dragonbuck smirked, just the barest hints of a nefarious smile tugging at the outermost corners of his mouth.
In a world filled to the brim with violence and aggression, such a calming creature as Speak Not was strange for Flesh to behold. He forced his heavily-scaled eyes wide, better to inspect her with, and drank in the doe's gently curved horns and the hair which hung down and brushed the ground. She might have been beautiful if beauty were not a concept lost upon poor, disfigured and harsh-minded Flesh. He could only wonder why she let her hair get so long; did it not get tangled in bushes and branches as she moved through the Swamp? Did it not make her slow and encumber her? She seemed all too easy of a target.
With a single step forward, dirt was pushed up and around Flesh's cloven hoof in much the same way a boar's snout would dislodge the earth while foraging for roots and tubers. The dragonbuck extended his neck and stretched his head towards the silent doe, absently wondering why she had not provided any sort of verbal reply. His nostrils flared wide again, this time inhaling deeply the doe's feminine scent- so starkly different than the thick blood which drenched his nose and face. It was confusing, and thus frustrating, to attempt comprehension of her lack of words. Had her tongue been ripped out? Was she physically incapable of speech? Flesh suspected he might never glean the truth behind her silence, which also served only to fuel his irritation.
The unafraid and challenging defiance in Speak Not's gaze was awarded back a shamelessly lewd and depraved smile- of sorts. The way she drew herself to stand taller had not gone unnoticed; although he was irritated by her, Flesh also found himself curious.
"I get it," Flesh quite literally hissed. "I'm just so striking that I've taken away your words."

Her breath came out in a huff and she rolled her usually-kind eyes at his words. She knew silence to be a form of assent, but she didn't want this buck's ego to get any larger than it already was.
With a flick of her tail, or at least as much a flick as she could manage with her hair, more of a swish, she began to move. She started to the side, giving him a wide berth. Where his movements were aggressive and hard, hers were fluid and graceful. Her hooves stepped lightly, disturbing the earth as little as she could. Her legs twitched with the tension held in them as she watched him, ready to do whatever she had to if he lunged at her again. In truth she didn't know what she'd do. She'd most likely run; she highly doubted she'd lash back out at him, let alone do any sort of damage.
Her eyes didn't leave him as she stepped slowly.
