The letter was sent at 7 am, arriving to Serafina's room at a little before 8. At night. Gnomes took a detour somewhere and while they would insist different, it wasn't surprising to have a gnome show up half drunk to deliver messages. The note was fairly simple in script, arrive at the auditorium at 8 pm for your exam, nothing is required, blah blah blah. Very simple, very.. lacking.

Once at the auditorum, Serafina would notice that the place was pitch black, cold, and the only light on stage illuminated two chairs. One which the demon professor was currently residing in, legs crossed, writing away on a few scraps of paper attacked to a clip board. "Come in." His voice echoed in the room as he only briefly looked up. "I trust you're ready for your exam?"

"Huh?"

Serafina had not been expecting the gnome to show up, hence her groggy response, but when she was given the somewhat drunkenly handled note, her eyes slowly began to widen. Eight PM?! That night?! She wasn't ready for an exam! She wasn't ready in any shape or form! No one had told her she was going to have an exam tonight except for this stupid gnome and this stupid gnome was so late that she'd punt him out of the ghost dorms and perhaps off campus with one swipe if she wasn't so busy throwing her sweater on, grabbing a purse, and running like a bat out of hell in an attempt to get to the exam before she was considered late.

That would be an awful way to make an impression, especially during her exam. The last thing she wanted to do was not look punctual. Why would anyone want to pass her to year two if she couldn't even show up? What kind of effort did that show?

Her legs were carrying her faster than she was used to, driven by adrenaline, and perhaps that was why she nearly slammed into the door of the location when she had finally come there, skidding to a stop. It was at that moment she realized that it might have been easier for her in the first place to just levitate there; it would have let her bypass some of the things she nearly tripped over; oh that wasn't the point it was nearly time for--

When Serafina opened the door, she was ... surprised, to say the least, at how barren the location seemed to be. Barren and ... dark, very dark. What was this professor up to?

She straightened herself out, approaching the other chair. Assuming that it was alright, she sat down.

"I'm ready."

Ready as she could be after that nonsense...

Looking up from his clipboard, Rengath gave a false smile, full of the regular sarcasm and loathing he normally had. "I should hope so. Now Miss Arai, it says here you're a Kuhisake-Onna. Not the most... frightening in appearances." He sighed. "Especially when hidden. So, let's just make this easy for the both of us shall we? Sit." The motion to the chair before waving back at th curtains. A shuffle of gnomes in dark, the curtains rose revealing a simple if crude, backdrop.

The scene of a busy streat with neon lights, people running across the walkway as in the foreground flowers bloomed from what looked like a garden box. It was... relatively boring. "Let's begin. I want you to tell me in the picture, where would the most idea place to scare be?"

>> The middle of the street
>> The stores on the street

Serafina would have glared at Rengath, but he was ... right, certainly. It was never Serafina's goal to be the scariest of ghouls, anyway, more concerned with keeping her malformation hidden than revealing it. And, admittedly, the malformation was likely would would make her scary.

She ran a tongue over her lips underneath the mask, nodding very slightly. "Alright."

Serafina crossed one leg over the other, watching as what was indeed a rather boring scene popped up in front of her. What was the purpose of this? She glanced over to the demon professor, curiously, but him speaking up made her jump and turn her attention back to the screen in front of her. Right, she should be paying attention to the exam, though she ... wasn't totally sure what the purpose of this exam was. Was he trying to see how well she could scare? He said himself that she wasn't that scary.

As a Kuchisake-onna, her instinct was to find people in isolation to scare--the more there were, the more likely they'd see through the typical tricks of her race--and so the group of people made her frown a bit. It was certainly an obvious solution, and jump scares worked brilliantly on a group, but she wasn't really a jump scarer. That was overdone.

Her eyes flickered over to the other options: the middle of the street. While that might work, people were riding their oddly built transportation vehicles back and forth, walking on the sides, and Serafina hadn't a doubt in her mind that most of them weren't even paying attention. It wasn't really her goal to get run through... The stores, though, those were worth inspecting, the wide variety allowing her to find what was no doubt a wide variety of humans.

Maybe she'd even find an isolated one to back into a corner, that could work...

Was it the right answer? Well, she could certainly try it. "Personally, I like the idea of those stores," she pointed them out, with a small nod. "Kuchisake-onna work best when they can find humans in isolation, and I am most likely to find people not grouping together at stores. They're also more likely to be paying attention; I don't think the people in the street particularly are. It's very busy and people seem to have tunnel vision. Can make it more difficult to get their attention, though of course, if I were to manage it... Still, I think the stores are the better choice for how we onna work."

Hopefully.

A click, the image on the canvas changed. Now, it was inside of a storefront. Racks of plains clothes hung as shelves were lined with simple jeans and shoes. In the back, dressing rooms, in the front an empty counter, several people were milling about, some waiting in line to check out, but in total there were only 5 humans in the image.

"A good choice. Not the best, but good." Nothing was the best but that was besides the point. Rengath was just picky. Writing a few notes on his clipboard, Rengath motioned once more to the scene on the screen. "Now, what part of the store do you scout first before you make an attempt to scare?"

Not the best? Serafina quirked a brow at the Professor, curious about what he would have chosen, but this was not really her place to poke into his psyche. What she needed to do was get through this exam with a passing grade. So she brought her mind back to the scene in front of her, leaning forward and squinting her eyes as if to get a bit of a closer look at the situation that was unfolding in front of her. Good, as she suspected, the store had less people in it. That was a good start, especially for her version of scaring.

The check out was something that caught her eye, eyes scanning over the people who were waiting rather impatiently. That might have been a good location to get a cheap scare, but then again, doing something like knocking clothing over wouldn't really phase them so much as make them think the wind blew. People tended to bump into each other all the time in lines, and while that would give her access to plenty of people at once, she could not think of a way to easily scare a large group of people and actually extract FEAR from them.

What could she say? She wasn't a lover, but she certainly was not a fighter.

Her fingers tapped against her leg as she observed what else was contained in the scene. It didn't look like there were many people in the store overall, and there was a certain level of isolation the people milling about the store had as well; she was only able to pick out a couple at most, and they were all scattered throughout the store. What caught her eyes the most, though, was the dressing rooms towards the back.

If she was looking for a very obvious level of privacy ... well, that was it.

Serafina turned to Rengath, pointing out the dressing rooms. "I would like to take a look into the dressing rooms. If it's anything like our mauls, they expect the utmost privacy back there, and anything interrupting that could create some high levels of FEAR pretty quickly, and perhaps spread it if their reaction was severe enough."
