I watched nervously from a far distance.
Her eyes were glazed over while deep in thought.
A small twitch of happiness flashed acrossed her face
as a thought seemed to hold her conscious.

I hadn't seen this doe before, or had I?

Everything here seemed too vaguely familiar.
The trees were bigger, the grass a little less green
and the sky far grayer. The smell of old fallen leaves
stung my nostrils sharply.

As the doe looked up, my muscles froze in horrible realization.
My mother. By divine beings, she was my mother. I hadn't
had any intention to come back, but her eyes were eagerly
bright and joyful to welcome me
