Young man just moved to a small town on a lake and one day while he is out in the water he spots someone there. It just so happens to be a (either a nymph or a mermaid... or selkie if you want) and upon finding him the boy see's that he is trapped in a fishers net that his father had left out just the other day. The boy saves the (N, M, S) and he is given a wish. The boy is very lonely in his new home so he just wishes that the other boy would be his friend/brother.

Persionality: He's quite nice and friendly, always trying to help out when he can. However, he tends to ditch plans if there is something about the beach, pool, fishing, or family things come up- but he makes up for ditching the plans.

Name: Zarian Merlow
Age:27 stopped ageing at 18
Persionality: Generally friendly and very curious. He doesn't leave his lake and he doesn't quite know how to walk on two legs. He loves seeing new faces but knows that humans can be dangerous. He isn't alone in his lake but he doesn't speak much to the other mermaids that live there.
Brief Bio: Zarian grew up like any mermaid would if just a little more sheltered. His coloring is a bit more exotic than others so he tends to stick to the deeper waters. He only left the lake once when he was very young and since then he hasn't gone back on land. He is rather lonely at times but he enjoys watching the different people that move into the house on the lake.

It was early in the morning and Zarian could hear the birds through the hush of the water chirping away. They were up as early as he was but not for the same reason. The red headed male always found himself waking well before the rest of his family, only consisting of his mother and father, so that he could slip from beneath their watchful gaze and follow the slow tides to the lake beach. Every morning it was the same or Zarian, he would go to the beach, hide under the surface of the water or behind a rock outcropping, and then he would watch as the earthwalkers spoke to each other and climbed onto their "boats" Then Zarian would follow them silently, watching as they spoke to each other and laughed, before watching them leave with their strange weeds laying a trap for the fish.

Zarian never minded That the earth walkers caught the fish, there were plenty in the lake, but it was always interesting to him how the strange weeds caught them. So on Zarian went, every morning, to do the same thing over and over again until he had to return home. He had gotten a shock when the older man who had lived in the house before, who had seen him a few times and simply smiled, was taken away in black plastic. Zarian thought it was a strange way for someone to go places, all wrapped up, but he had hoped to see the old man again and actually speak to him Soon after though people had come for the old man's thing and then a new family was moving into the house.

Zarian had liked the family as soon as he had seen them, they looked like they would be in the water a lot, and he had not been proven wrong. They were his new curiosity and while they were not on the lake everyday like the old man the father and son seemed to be out often enough. Zarian swam along, his hair carefully tied back, and headed straight for the beach. When he finally reached the Dock he was a little disappointed to see that the nets were already laid, apparently the father had laid them yesterday while Zarian had been off to the other parts of the lake, which meant that he wouldn’t get to see either father or son that day.

It was disappointing and so Zarian made to leave, carefully swimming around the nets. A loud noise from the beach alerted him suddenly and Zarian twisted to see what it was. There was a sudden pull on his tail when he did and then suddenly he was quite tangled in the nets. Zarian gasped at the sudden realization and pulled at the nets, jerking around and trying to get out. His body splashed at the surface of the water and soon he was gasping above water and trying to swim out of the nets that were biting into his tail and torso like sea urchins.

It was quite nice, the town that is. This place was peacefully and he could access the water when ever he wanted. His father would be around too, but knowing Keji he would here more often. He didn't have any friends in this town yet anyways. For now, he would settle with no friends. How would he make friends? Be a creep and go up to someone and ask if they wanted to be friends? No, he would rather keep himself away from being the town creep. Still... He didn't really want to be always alone. Oh well, he would figure that out at a different town. Right now, he wanted to get himself dressed and ready for the day. His father was already out about the town, having little chit chat about things that wouldn't interest him. Making himself breakfast, he started to eat it.

Since it was too early in the morning, he would hang around the house a bit before checking the nets. His father told him to get the nets time, but who knew what could happen overnight. A soft sigh left his lips, while he started to adjust his clothing slightly. Glancing around the house some, he nodded and made his way out the front door. Before he thought about leaving, he locked the front door. How? He had the key on a chain around his neck. It was the easiest way for him to keep track of it. His fingers brushed his hair back behind his ears, while he started to make his way down to the lake. It would take a bit to get down there, but he didn't mind the walk. It was actually pretty relaxing, to walk by himself to the lake. While he walked, he took in the sight around him.

Memorizing it, in case he moved soon. Keiji's father actually seemed to like it here, so he wasn't worried about moving again. Right now, his concern was taking in the beauty of his surroundings. There really wouldn't be a more relaxing place than this town. The town just gave off this home feeling, like he could live here and feel at home. As he headed towards the lake, he started to hum to himself. His music device at home, along with his cell phone. Well, wasn't he going electronic free today? Not like he used his phone much anyways. You were more likely see him messing with his music device instead of his phone. Taking the shorter path to the lake, he kept an eye out for any fishermen that might be out today. Keiji didn't want to bother them, while they caught their fish and what not.

However, when he made it to the lake shore his eyes slowly blinked. What was up with the splashing?! Squenting his eyes, he tried to get a better look. Was it some kind of fish? Maybe a shark? But why would a shark be in the lake. When he got closer, his eyes widened. Eh?! Was that a person? B-but... His mind pushed out the details of the person as he hurried towards the water. Should he swim out there?! Kicking his shoes off and pulling his shirt off, he hurried into the water. Rushing over to the splashing, he avoided the net as well as he could. "Calm down, the more you move the tighter it will get." Keiji spoke loudly, his fingers looking for the pocket knife. Once he had it, he nearly dropped it. That caused him to slow his motions some, getting the easiest part of the net cut first.

Though when he continued to move his fingers, he noticed the tail? Blinking he shook his head and continued. However, he dropped his knife when he was almost done cutting part of it. "Dammit." He muttered, before he started to do it the hard way. He would undo the net from the top, then bottom after that he'd have to untangle the person. Doing that quickly was something he had to. Starting with the bottom, he took a deep breath and went underwater. His fingers rushing to undo all the knots. His lungs burning with the need to breath after a minute, coming back up he caught his breath and started to undo the top. Nodding when it was done, he rushed to untangle the man. Fish... No he was a man... His mind started to swirl in confusion just... Just... Huh?! He had a tail!

But... Shaking his head, he started to get back to what needed his attention at the moment. He needed to help untangle him! His fingers started to loosen up the ropes- though they were tighter round the tail area.

His heart was beating a mile a minute and he could do nothing but struggle and try to pull at the netting. He couldn’t drown, no, but having a human catch him would be a worse fate Zarian was sure. His heart pounded hard and he whimpered slightly as the net dug further into his tail, slipping painfully under the scales. Zarian didn't know what to do, he had never gotten caught in the nets before, and it was getting harder and harder to move his tail. Zarian didn't hear when the other man first came into the water but suddenly there was someone shouting at him to calm down and grabbing onto him. Zarian didn't know who this man was, he couldn't focus long enough to realize it, and so he tried to struggle against him but then he realized the other was cutting away the netting and helping him.

Zarian took a deep breath and calmed himself down, his heart still racing and his limbs shaking from the adrenalin. He closed his eyes tight as the other cut away at the netting at first and then he started pulling at it. Zarian yelped slightly in pain when the other pulled at the netting on the lower part of his tail, a few scales being pulled painfully, and then he was feeling the net finally come undone. As the other continued to work, seemingly unaffected by the fact that he was currently freeing a merman from the nets, Zarian finally looked at him. He was surprised to see the male who had moved into the house the old man had lived in before he went away. This young man he had seen so many times with his father was now helping him out of the nets that they had set.

Zarian felt the net finally fall away and in an instant he was moving away from the other and under the water. He stayed where the other could not see him as he pressed at his injured tail. The damage wasn't to bad and would heal with little to no evidence so he was happy about that. Zarian looked up to where the males legs still were and though about what to do. He could always just swim away but the man had saved him when he could have just left him or… worse killed him. Zarian bit his lip and before the other could swim back to the beach and swam back up beside him and gently grabbed his arm.

"I-I…. Thank you." Zarian brushed his lose hair behind his ear but didn't let go of the others shirt. "You Saved me, really you did, I just.. You can't tell anyone you saw me." Zarian seemed suddenly very concerned. "I owe you for my life so… Take this." He slid one of his scales into the others hand. They were soft and smooth, more like a shell than a scale, and the color seemed to shimmer. "It may sound silly but.. make a wish. It's all I can give you since you saved me." Zarian new this was something he shouldn’t be doing. This man had saved him but that didn't mean he had pure intention, the wish could have horrible consequences, and depending on what it was Zarian knew his life would probably change.

He had to admit that it could be exciting, depending on what the other wished for, Zarian would love to go on land again. He wasn't a child anymore and he was sure that he would be alright.

Keiji couldn't believe that a person got stuck in the net! However, he was sure that this has happened before... Somewhere around the world, at least once before this. When he told the male to calmed down, it looked like he wasn't doing so at first. Well, at least until he started to help the person out. The person started to calm down after he was cutting the net away. That was good, it would be easier on him to get the net off of him. His fingers making sure to get the net away far enough to cut it. He didn't want to accidently cut the person, while trying to help him out. Cutting the net actually helped, but then he just had to drop the knife. What the hell was wrong with him!? This wasn't a time to be dropping something that important! Nor was it the time to cuss at himself, for doing that. Instead, he would have to do it the hard way and untangle it.

As he did so, he heard the other yelp and muttered a sorry to the person. Keiji wasn't trying to hurt him, it's just the well... Just well... This guy had a tail! Maybe it was a costume? But... It felt so real! Plus, while he was pulling the net off of the tail part of his body... Scales were being pulled along with the net, no wonder the male was yelping. Pushing those nonhuman thoughts away, he concentrated on getting the net completely off. Once that was done, he started to swim up some. Keeping himself above the water, he started to pay attention to how this guy looked. However, in that instant the other person moved away and was nowhere to be seen... Okay? He was probably just seeing things, it wasn't possible for someone to have a human half of them then the other half be a tail...

Yea, his mind was just playing tricks on him. That's all it was. Shaking his head, he started to convince himself he wasn't seeing things. But what was he suppose to tell his father? He saw some kind of fish person- well... Mermaid? No it was a guy so was it a Merman? Just tell his father he saw on, and set him free from the net and in the process he messed up the net? Yea... His father would probably think he hit his head or something. Keeping his head above the water, he went to go towards to the beach only to be stopped. Huh? Looking at what had grabbed him, he blinked when he saw the male once more. Well... His mind was trying to make him insane wasn't it? Listening to him speak, he shook his head lightly.

He didn't need to thank him, anyone would help someone stuck in a net- wouldn't they? As the other continued, he blinked a few times. So he couldn't tell anyone that he had seen him? Then that really meant... This guy really had a tail!! Staring the male in the eyes, he started to blink a few times. He owed him? This guy didn't have to give him anything, he was just helping him out! Not like he was trying to find a whole new species- well knew to the human's knowledge. Feeling the scale in his hand, he started to look at it's details. The scale was beautiful! His fingers took in how it felt, such a smooth scale it was. As the other spoke, he listened to what he was saying. Wish? It did sound a bit silly really...

However, saying he saw a Merman was also silly... So he could make a wish? Looking at the male, he blinked a few times as he took a moment to think about what he could wish for. Could he really just make a wish? Or was this some kind of joke being played on him? If it was a joke, he would be so embarrassed!! Taking a deep breath, he nodded his head lightly. "I wish you were part of my life... Like.. like a brother... But we look nothing alike... Um... You could be like my adoptive brother?" He asked his mind all over the place at the moment. His gaze shifting away from the male, as he pursed his lips. Maybe that was something he shouldn't have wished for? But he was an only child, and it was rather lonely at home too... So he really wanted to make that wish.

Zarian watched the other curiously as he looked over the scale, bother of them seeming to contemplate the wish that Keiji would make, and slowly it seemed that the other male came to an answer. Zarian tilted his head slightly as the words left him and a small smile formed on his face. He could feel the loneliness in those words, the obvious need for some company, and Zarian knew that he had found a kindred spirit today. It was hard living the life he did, trapped with no one but his parents and one other mermaid woman that he could not stand and it seemed that Keiji was much in the same place as him.

Zarian carefully pulled the other into a hug, a smile on his face, and when he pulled away he gave the other males cheek a quick and friendly kiss. "That is a wish I am more than happy to grant. By tomorrow morning you should have it. Sleep tonight knowing that you won't be lonely anymore. My name is Zarian." Zarian moved away from the other and then dove under the water, his tail giving one flick to the surface, and then he was gone to the tides. Zarian swam as fast as he could to his home, dodging the nets he found much easier, and then he slipped into his "home" resting at the deepest part of the lake.

His parents were unsurprisingly awake and when they saw him they could tell that something had happened. Zarian didn't know what to say to them, the only reason they were even in the lake was because of Zarian, but the red head guessed now they wouldn’t have reason to be. Zarian hugged his mother, a rather sweet woman, and he could feel her start trembling with tears. "Zarian… What have you done?" The red head swallowed thickly and pulled away. "I didn't do anything. Well… I made a mistake of getting caught in a net and when a young man saved me I did what I had to. I did what I was taught to do and so now I have to go. You two can finally go back home instead of staying here… I know it has been lonely for you two and I won't be lonely anymore." Zarian smiled softly and his mother pulled him in closer to her, tight to her chest.

"If you are going to do this we won't leave. You can come to us any time… the ocean is too far away." Zarian shook his head but held his mother a little tighter. "No… You need to be able to be with others of our kind and it will be far too tempting if I were to have you here." Zarian pulled away from his mother, being pulled into a hug from his father, and then he was released to be alone. Zarian had to wait until midnight before the wish came true and so he decided to bid farewell to his current home. He was finally getting his own wish of living amongst the earth walkers. He would get to see their world and meet other like Keiji. The whole idea of it was exciting to a point that Zarian was almost humming with joy as the sun began to set. The red head made his way to the beach again and waited by the dock.

He waited, and waited, and waited some more until finally the moon was at its high and the figurative clock struck twelve. It wasn't very fun, changing from what he was into a human, and Zarian ended up dropping beneath he water with a shuddering gasp as the pain lanced through him. His ears lost their point, his nails shortened and turned a more normal color as the small amount of webbing between his fingers faded away. His tail split and then formed two legs instead of the long tail and shortened. The scales turned into normal skin and by the time it was all done he was pulling himself onto the dock with a gasp and a shudder. He was bare as new born baby but after he got his bearings he carefully stood on shaking legs and made his way up to the house.

He was glad he had remembered, as least a little, how to walk as a human. He stumbled a bit on his way up but once he entered the house he knew that there would be changed. Keiji's father, and mother if she was in the picture, would know him as their adopted son and wouldn't question why he was there. The world would shift around for this wish and the guest room had already changed into the second bedroom for the red head. It was the way of magic really, everyone would know Zarian as Keiji's brother, and since Zarian had stopped ageing at 18 they would see him as the younger brother. Zarian carefully made his way into the bedroom that was his, filled with quite a few colors and clothes that fit Zarians rather bubbly and friendly personality, and he pulled out something that looked like sleep wear. It was a rather large long sleeve shirt, that certainly would be too big, and some flannel pajama bottoms.

Putting the clothes on was a bit strange, Zarian had to pull from memory what he had to do, and then instead of laying in the bed that was designated his he crept down the hall to Keiji's room. The boy was there, sleeping, which thankfully meant this wouldn’t be to awkward in the morning. Keiji would be the only one to remember before when Zarian wasn't his adoptive brother but hopefully since it was his wish he would react to poorly to the sudden change. Zarian closed the others door and went back to his own room before laying down to get some sleep.

Zarian woke much earlier than usual the next morning and he made his way down stairs to where he heard the noise of who he could only assume was either Keiji or the others father. The red head carefully let his hair down and peeked around the corner to see who was there. It wasn't Keiji but the man that was there certainly had quite a few of Keiji's features. Zarian stepped around the corner and smiled at the man, bidding him a simple good morning, and then looked back up the stairs. He hoped the other would wake up soon.

He wasn't really that sure, if this wish would actually come true. Just who was this guy? Sure he seemed to be serious about granting this wish, but how could he know that this was not some prank? Then again... Who would get themselves trapped in a net, just to do some prank? No, he couldn't really see anyone going that far to prank someone. Plus, the tail felt so real! And how could the guy give him a scale like this so easily? It was indeed a beautiful scale! Such a smooth texture to it too, and because of these small things he would tell this guy his wish. It was probably a really embarrassing on, but what else could he wish for?! This seemed to be the most reasonable wish to make. At least in his mind it was.

He wasn't trying to let it be obvious that he was lonely, but it was probably a dead give away from what he had wished for... As he spoke his wish, he couldn't help but notice the male tilt his head slightly. The smile on the other's face was kind, but he still looked away slightly since he was embarrassed. However, it wasn't long before he was carefully pulled into a hug. Huh? Blinking a few times, he gently gave the other person a hug. It was nice, receiving a hug from someone else. Now, the quick friendly kiss caught him completely off guard. His cheeks dusted a pink color, because of the friendly gesture. Well... It wasn't very expecting to receive a hug and a kiss on his cheek.

Listening closely to what he said, he couldn't help but return the smile some. He was happy- no more than happy to grant his wish! If that was true, then tomorrow he wouldn't be as lonely! When the other said he wouldn't be lonely anymore, his cheeks darkened slightly. So he caught onto why he wished for what he did? Well, at least he wasn't teasing him about it... Zarian? The male's name was Zarian? That was a nice name for the male. However, before he could tell him his name or compliment the male's name the other left. His gaze was shifting about, but after the tail giving a flick to the surface, he couldn't see him anymore. Hopefully he would see him tomorrow...

Swimming back to shore, he started to grab his shoes. His clothes felt weird now, clinging to his skin. Oh well, he could deal with it. Making his way back inside his home, he couldn't help but let his mind wonder to Zarian. Would he really be back here tomorrow? If so, how would he look? His mind was consumed with these thoughts, he almost didn't hear his father speaking to him. Snapping out of his thoughts for the moment, he went to help his father with the supplies. Dinner was cooked easily and quickly, and it was eaten between the two of them just as quick- if not quicker. His mother? She ditched them for a richer guy, something about the fancy life being better than a fishy life.

Honestly, Keiji enjoyed this life- even if he were lonely. Tomorrow would change that, and he couldn't wait until then! Heading to bed earlier than usual, he got into his night clothes before getting in bed. His mind hoping and praying that the wish were true. It would be great to have Zarian around! If the next day came and nothing changed... He was sure he would think of himself as an insane idiot. The night seemed to go by so slow for him, even in his sleep it went by slow. His dreams were mainly of the scale and his wish. There was a certain amount of loneliness one person could take, and Keiji was getting close to that mark.

When morning came, his father was up earlier than the two boys in the house. Keiji on the other hand was in his bed sleeping comfortably. In the middle of a great dream too, but sadly he woke up once he rolled out of his bed. A soft yawn escaping his lips, before he started to head downstairs. Breakfast, that was what he needed right now. As he made his way down the stairs, his mind flashed to the thought of Zarian. That's right! Was he here?! Rushing the rest of the way downstairs, he started to look for his father and/or Zarian. He didn't even bother messing with his bedhead or his clothes.

As he rushed down the stairs, he noticed a certain male. No way... Hurrying closer, he noticed it was indeed Zarian! His smile brightened up, as he made his way over to him. "Good morning, Zarian!" He said in a cheerful tone, before he noticed his father. "Good morning, dad." He added, before he looked at Zarian again. He really wasn't lying about the wish thing!
