 Brand Xander Limone Alaric Idris Ravensdale, who goes by Brand except at his home and by close loved ones; in those cases, he is called Clover or Little Clover. It is after the tattoo on his face, a joke about luck.
His family forgot both his Reaper birthdays nearly every year, as they did for all his siblings, and only realized he needed an education when he was 17, and so he has been shipped off to Amityville.
A long line of Reapers, the Psychonauts employ hallucinogens, lucid dreaming, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, smoke inhalation, sleep deprivation, etc... to gain insight on the condition of the soul and the construction of matter. In this way, they are said to acquire information about human souls in extremely covert ways, posing as a variety of circus performers. Brand, himself, has obviously not been a participant in the family history yet.
His Natural ability is called Distortion. By going into one of his psychonautic trances, Brand can rearrange an object's existence so that it becomes something else. Brand likes to describe it as he is just gently suggesting to an object that it is confused, and rearranging it into what it should be. There are some rules to its use:
In Year One
1 :: No objects any larger than a soccer ball. Anything larger than that, up to the size of a bag, will simply revert to its original form moments later. Anything larger than a bag will not respond at all, it is too much for his young mind to distort.
2 :: Objects must have a similar quality to become something else: density, shape, weight, taste, smell, height, etc.
3 :: He can never use it on living things.
Although his regular attacks involve throwing his reaper summon, his knives, with excellent precision, Brand's FEAR uses his knives in a different way. His FEAR is called Psychic Surgery [The Chill]. Despite his parents' hopes and dreams that he'd use his psionics to throw his weapons with FEAR-laced precision, every time he enters a psychonautic trance with his FEAR, as a Y1 he always gets an urge to rearrange things to the shape he thinks they should be in. Holding one of his knives in his hand, he uses psychic surgery to target someone at a distance and heal them. He needs to be in a successful trance to do so.

[ Charismatic ]
After a lifetime of being in a very vocal, performative family, Brand cannot help but chat with anyone he meets in a pretty sincere way. He's happy to shake hands, listen to what others really mean when they're talking, and just generally be charming. It probably has a lot to do with his Psychonaut trance-state, in which he explores the meaning of souls, but regardless it has translated into a pretty brilliantly friendly personality. He thrives in group environments like parties, and loves being surrounded-- sensory overload doesn't get to him at all!
[ Determined ]
With a very practice-makes-perfect (and I love being perfect) attitude, Brand isn't afraid to fail and he isn't about to give up. He's not good with his knives for nothing; he has practiced on some of the family's very best antiques! Antique wheels of fortune, antique stuffed bears, antique furniture-- mostly very unconventional, some not. One way or another, Brand doesn't give up easily.

He loves attention, and he loves being pretty, and he loves putting on a show. For better or worse, Brand does everything he can with a little bit of flair. It would be great, if it was appropriate and not over the top, sure. Sometimes it is absolutely both of those things. Sometimes it's exactly what the situation calls for! ... he just can't always tell the difference.
[ Escapist ]
As a psychonaut, Brand's already restless attitude has been given wings to fly the coop-- he's constantly experimenting with his state of consciousness, and often gets really absorbed in substances, habits, hobbies, other individuals-- trying to get him to stay in reality is really hard when he doesn't like whatever reality it is or he doesn't really think yours is necessarily the right one! It can make him totally out of touch with deadlines, relationships and even conversations if he's not in a good mood.
[ Domineering ]
"I'm sure your way is really, really good! But let's try mine, okay~?" When it comes down to it, Brand is pretty pushy about his opinions, and whatever it will take to make sure he is comfortable and he is happy. It probably has a lot to do with the number of siblings, the way his community all walked in and out of each other's places all the time, and how he was pretty much never alone-- Brand feels it is completely necessary to assert his will over others. It can be really stifling to deal with someone who's so dead set on their own way. Not even his charisma can make up for this, all the time-- eventually it stops being cute, and it's probably just disheartening. The doubly-sad part is that Brand loves working in a team, and he feels super uncomfortable alone, so driving others away is never his goal! |

The Ravensdales live in one of many lovely Victorian mansions, all attached one to the other, like many other Reapers in lore. Psychonauts who are not on the road all occupy one of these houses, a family per house, and the families are often very loud and vibrant; it's not uncommon to see an entire family of age travelling together as a performing group. As a result, the main floor of their homes usually consist solely of a kitchen, sitting room, and occasionally a front door. The family proper would inhabit the upper levels. Neighbours would often drop by, walk through, and come calling at any hour. There was usually a Ravensdale awake to greet them, given how very large Brand's family was. He had quite a few siblings. Brand is incredibly used to having a lot of noise and company; he doesn't respond well to solitude.
One Ravensdale tradition, and in fact a Psychonaut tradition, involves the community naming the new Reaper. A representative from all the families would come visit and together they would gift the new Reaper six names. Those six names held power, and no one could know all six, or they would understand the fundamentals of that Reaper's FEAR.
The Ravensdales have a strange infestation of Improbable Cats. Improbable Cats have strange fur in several patterns and colours, and though they are typically only kitten-sized they generally find a way to get into things. The gift of an Improbable Cat means that a Ravensdale cares for the recipient deeply. |
