[B] The Old Copse [Carries the Night/Starburst]

[Ruriska]

It took some time for her to realize. The sensation of it was new and unexpected but she treated it as she did everything; with calm detachment. That she would fall pregnant had been bound to happen sooner or later. Her night jaunts with bucks were a regular occurrence.

That it had happened in winter was a mild inconvenience. Food was scarce and her stomach had become a bottomless pit, constantly craving and never filled. Carries roamed ceaselessly, never stopping and growing heavier by the day.

Then finally she did stop, chased a badger from its den in an old copse and settled down to wait. It wasn't time yet but this was the place, this was where she would leave them to begin their lives.  

[Amorpheous]

In the distance, glowing eyes. Then they are closer and closer. Too tall to be a predator, they must belong to a kin.

The approach is slow, as if deliberately measured to be as non-threatening as possible. And then, she is there.

"Congratulations." Serene.

Ruriska

 

[Ruriska]

Carries the Night lifted her head off the ground and regarded the approaching kin with endless calm.

"Mm," was her first response and then, after some thought, "thank you." Pregnancy was a natural thing. It happened in all female creatures and was hardly worth the congratulations but she accepted the words nonetheless.

[Amorpheous]

"Does anything weigh on your heart or mind?" It is asked without force. There is no expectation coloring her words. She is only gentle.

Rurisk

so short.....

 

[Ruriska]

"No," she answered simply, instantly.

Then she got to her hooves with a soft grunt. "You are one of the Motherfather's chosen?" The words rang true. If she was wrong, this doe was strange and somewhat nosy.

Amorpheous

[Amorpheous]

"Yes, I am," A small smile and a nod.

Ruriska

 

[Ruriska]

"I see," she said and dipped her head respectfully. "The Swamp is much greater for having you in it."

Amorpheous

next just one word

 

[Amorpheous]

"Perhaps." Another smile.

Ruriska

Challenge accepted.

 

[Ruriska]

She settled back down on the ground, resting her sore legs and regarding the Legendary with continued serenity.

"You're here for a reason."

Amorpheous

[Amorpheous]

"To see how you are doing." She was equally serene.

Ruriska

that would be the best!

 

[Ruriska]

She chuckles. "And I am fine."

Then she tilts her head, looking sideways at her swollen belly. "Is this about them? It doesn't feel as though something is wrong."

Amorpheous

it's like a calm showdown

 

[Amorpheous]

She shook her head. "Is there anything you wish for them?"

Ruriska

 

[Ruriska]

"I wish them well," she answered. "But hardly more."

Her tail stirred, flicking lightly across the ground and then settled. "Are you here to tell me I must care for them? I didn't imagine that was the Motherfather's way. She leaves us all to our own devices, in the end"

Amorpheous

 

[Amorpheous]

She shook her head and chuckled softly. "Not at all."

"And I wish them well as well, may they be well and fulfilled," she smiled. "Stay well."

And suddenly she was a cheetah and then she was gone.

She watched the cheetah leave with a hint of a smile and then curled up the sleep, some small weight she hadn't realized she had been carried lifted from her mind.
