For supposedly being spring in the swamp, there was still a touch of chill to the air. When Loveliest Lies closed her eyes and breathed it in, the lingering scent of the mountains hung close. It was a chill she associated with her dear older sister, and yet she had not had sign of Gone in some moons. She sighed, trying to shake the melancholy that persisted her afternoon walk. If only she could find her sister, this dreadful mood would desist!

"Where could you have gotten off to," Loveliest mumbled, opening her eyes and looking around the area. They were not far from their regular meeting space, and yet when the sisters had assembled, there was no sign of Gone. Not even a trace of her scent or a touch of her presence.

Far Better was just as well as ever. Plump, contented, even had a few children. A little doe and buck had arrived with her, offering their pleasantries before departing. They had hoped to meet her sisters, but were not quite as dedicated to The Meeting as the blood sisters were. It had been nice, to see her sister's children in such good spirits and kindness. And yet, no sign of Gone! Motherfather above!

The day was beyond salvaging, it seemed. With the sun setting, Loveliest Lies set to finding herself a place to stay the night and rest her head. Ahead there was an outcropping, and from what she could tell, a cave nestled into its face just-so. Trotting ahead carefully, Loveliest Lies peered into the darkness and called.

"Hello?"

User ImageA cool evening was something that Miles to Go - or Restless - hadn't expected. It was supposed to be spring, but his breath hung out in front of him and every step reminded him of the rare times that he and his mirror found themselves knee deep in snow. It was calming, and yet, made him a little tired - they always stopped walking in the dead of Winter. It wasn't time for them to rest, yet, they still had (as one assumed by his name,) miles to go.

He and his twin had separated from their small family when they matured enough to travel by themselves. Like being attached to an unseen fate, they felt alien if they stayed in one place, like a burning ache to leave.

It was just natural.

What was not natural, though, was the doe that he had come across. She was coloured like the last days of fall, talking in to a small cave in an outcropping. Normally one wouldn't dare themselves such - who knew what was lurking in it. Clearing his throat, he wandered closer to her, head tilting one way.

"One would hope that the cave was empty. A shame what would happen to such a lovely soul if a mean spirit already inhabited it." He called out as well has he could - for the twins were soft spoken, and bold bodied. They did not speak much, unless they had company.

While she did not jump at the foreign voice, Loveliest Lies did still. Muscles tense, she forced herself not to turn from the cave's entrance in shock, but to handle the situation with decorum and grace. As though she had not been startled, the doe raised her head, and turned to face the stranger.

For a moment, it was as though she had seen a ghost.

Mouth slightly agape, Loveliest Lies stared at the strange buck before her. From his white coat to his forelocks, it had almost seemed too easy. Too perfect. Clicking her jaw shut, she forced herself to offer the stranger a weak smile.

"Fortunately for me, it seems you are the only spirit around to encounter." She replied demurely, falling back to sit on her haunches. Perhaps it was too trusting of her, but the buck did not strike her as particularly threatening. Very rarely did strangers frighten Loveliest Lies- there were too many kind souls in the swamp for that sort of paranoia to dictate her living. Her head cocked, ever so slightly to one side, and she stared at the stranger unblinkingly.

"Unless, of course, you're the mean spirit I'm meant to fear. And that would be a dreadful shame."

A small smile was awarded to the doe, white eyes echoing the emotion. He held that look, before he gave a little shake of his head, going to take a few steps closer towards her again, hoping that he would not spook her so easily. Ghosts were definitively something serious, and he had thought many a time he had seen one, himself, but it never really came to fruition.

"It is your lucky day, then," He started. "As far as we know, the only kind of spirit that one could be would be one that you see on your travels, a guiding soul that disappears once our job is done." A simple answer, honest and sweet as he went to look in to the abyss of the cave with her, his face finally softening up in to a pensive look, stepping forward boldly. Was she looking for a place to rest? It seemed empty, maybe a little damp, but definitively seemed safe enough for her to use for the time being.

Of course, he also liked to tease.

"Also, it appears that a spirit such as oneself is very available if the beautiful lady is looking for a guide in to this dark abyss. Maybe we will find a bear." He teased, lightly. "Shall we start with names? One is known as Miles to Go, though, one's other-self calls one "Restless". Yourself?"

The buck was a curious case to speak to, and Loveliest Lies found him endlessly enthralling. It was like witnessing the full moon- majestic, foreign, strange. She couldn't help but keep her smile, listening intently as he waxed on about the journey. True, she could use a companion- while she had set about to partake in this quest on her own, she had no qualms with a friendly face to guide her along the way. And from how it sounded... he had... a twin? It was not something that Loveliest Lies inherently understood, but it nonetheless sounded curious.

"Restless. What a fine sounding nickname," she soothed, rather liking the sound of it. She offered a gentle bow of her head, and once more smiled at the now less-strange stranger.

"I've been called The Loveliest Lies of All. Loveliest Lies works just fine for me, if it's easy enough for you." It was, in actuality, what her sisters called her- few kin had grown close enough to her to use the nickname, but it was a nickname she was fond of still. If only Gone was around to use it!

"And I'd rather hope we don't encounter a bear," She laughed, flushing slightly. Really, she was not inclined to do any running today!

"Such a beautiful name." He answered her, tilting his head a little, as soft white eyes softened a bit. "A little bittersweet, is it not? May we just call you Lovely? To think of a lie in your presence is a little saddening." He finished, before going to bravely step forward in to the mouth of cave, the darkness from inside, with the exception of his eyes, which continued to glow warmly.

"Well, one does not hear any breathing." He teased openly, cracking a wild smile dark tail swishing slowly behind him. "It could be a lovely place to rest one's weary legs, if needed." Which had seemed like a good idea - Sleepless and he had spent days wandering, and even though they were named aptly, they did, in fact sometimes sleep.

"One is sure Sleepless would love to meet you, also."

"That's what all things in life are, though. Lies," Loveliest Lies replied, smiling a touch sadly at the buck. Her gaze turned from him and up to the trees, which she regarded. "We fool ourselves into thinking our memories and feelings are eternal. The things which we see, we want, we love..." The doe sighed to herself, and turned back to Restless.

"Nothing remains eternal. But isn't it so lovely, to think our relationships will affect this world? That our spirits will have impact based on who we interact with?" As if in tune with her thoughts, a leaf from a nearby tree drifted down, brushed the doe's nose, and continued onwards. Her brown eyes followed it, a smile playing at her lips.

"The swamp will not remember us. Generations from now, our progeny will not remember us. But we live each day as though they will, as though we are the most important kin in the world." Again, her attention turned to the buck.

"If that is not a lovely lie to you, I cannot think of one to change your mind."

At the mention that nothing in the cave seemed alive, Loveliest Lies bowed her head, and pushed forwards into the mouth of the cavern. At the mention of Sleepless, her ears flickered with rapt interest, even as she continued inwards.

"I do need rest. I'm not such a weary traveler as you," Loveliest Lies teased softly in reply.

"Sleepless... your twin?"
