[Shaddaling]

She hears them in the distance, thrumming in symphony, the harsh song of cicada wings. They drift from the sky, glossimer threads of torn dreams and their bodies crunched under her foot. Tiny hollow shells and she snickered, eyes gleaming as she moved towards nothing.

It was not the first time they had meet beyond the physical. Howl Back flicked her ears, watching the fragile rain of crunchy wings. She walked over the hollow shell of bodies, listening to them crunch under her hooves as she joined her sister. Behind her the bodies tremble and burst into small brightly colors birds, their screams and bright wings joining the buzz of cicadas.
