"I suppose it's normal to hate Mondays... but after you're with us for a while the day of the week don't even matter." Luxury snickered, glancing at a grumpy looking dude sweeping the sidewalk. It had been just over three weeks since she learned she had a little sister... and since the two landed another day off together Luxury checked out a car and took CJ out to show her a little more of the island. The cowgirl had mentioned she liked littler towns, that they were quaint and cute and had rustic charm, so Makko Town was their destination for the day. Specifically, a small Mom&Pop cafe, though the grumpy sweeper wasn't on their 'things to see list'...

Their ride had been... a bit awkward, to say the least. Luxury didn't have the slightest idea how to be a big sister... Growing up, she'd only had brothers, and they were all demons so she didn't interact much. They were also older demon brothers, which meant Luxury was bottom of the food chain... Sure, being a part of Team Rocket helped her not think so little of herself, but now she felt the pressure to be better. For Calico.

Chora and Chevy were out of their Pokeballs, and Chora had nearly returned to her normal self so she was looking for ways to get into trouble. But... how on earth was she to do that in this dusty old village? The Purrloin looked at her new companion with sad, sad eyes. "It's. So. Boring!" She whimpered.

Luxury heard the whimper noise and rolled her eyes. "Chora, don't be dragging the Pokemon of my little sister into your adventures." A finger wag to the little cat earned her an eye roll right back, and the Grunt just shook her head. "Anywho. I heard this place has the best hot chocolate on the island, so maybe we should investigate?"

Calico Jean snickered a little at the 'Monday' crack, but it came out more nervously than she had intended... Sure, they had had some fun over Halloween, and Luxury had given her little Zin, and she seemed interested in bonding... But it was still so weird for her, and she knew it had to be weird for Luxury too...

CJ had grown up as an only child, and in a way envied Luxury for her siblings... But not for the quality of said siblings, for sure. They had talked a bit about their home lives in the car, and it was nothing short of strained at times and not really comfortable even once. They had grown up very differently... and CJ grew up with their dad, which she knew gave Luxury every right to hate her. But... she didn't seem to hate her at all. At one point, CJ mentioned their dad... And Luxury shut down immediately. Still, CJ wanted her to know that he had been a good guy, and was willing to bet that when he'd look all sad watching CJ he was remembering Luxury. Telling her that seemed to help, but... Of course, it didn't change what happened.

Trying to brush the thoughts from her mind, CJ looked at the two feline-like critters trotting at their feet. "Ha, I'm more worried about Chevy makin' trouble... She don't ever really mean to, but she's quite outgoing and it ain't always the best way to be." She shook her head with a smile.

Chevy looked up at her girl with twinkling eyes, then back at Chora. "Yeah, but it's charming, right? Cute little town..." The Sylveon stretched out her ribbons and waved them around, feeling the air around her until Chora playfully nipped at one. "Hey!" She giggled, bopping the cat on the nose with the bitten ribbon. "You're a brat!" Chora just stuck her tongue out in response and giggled too.

Ignoring the felines, CJ nodded at her sister. "Sounds good t' me! Certainly good weather for a hot coco... Sheesh." CJ shivered to add to her point, not liking the cold one bit. She was build for heat, for summer, for sweating out on a ranch. Not freezing her rear end off with wind blowing over the ocean and stinging her face...

Luxury nodded a bit, "Good weather in deed… Hopefully you'll get used to the colder winters here, it ain't so bad after a while." She'd spent a few winters on the island so far, and while they could certainly be cold she handled it a lot better than it looked like CJ was. But then, from what they'd talked about so far, it seemed like her hometown had colder winters than CJ's so that made sense. Luxury was a lot more used to it, not just from her time as a rocket.

When the girls got to the cafe door, the guy sweeping paused to open it for them. Luxury wasn't sure what to think of it, so she just kind of nodded and put her own hand on the door as if she expected the guy to let go as she was passing though. Men. Filthy disgusting rats, the lot of them. Well, most of them. Luxury had known maybe one to be ok. Just one. And he was only sort of ok. But, that's not the person Luxury needed to be thinking about right now. The person who deserved her attention was following along behind her, smiling at the sweeper-slash-door-holder and thanking him and calling him 'sir'. The grunt couldn't help but snicker under her breath. Cali was such a country girl, and sometimes Luxury found it funny. Such a different way of life…

"Ahhhh, warmth~" The air of the cafe drew in Luxury's attention, and she happily slid off her coat and unwound her scarf as she waited for a waitress to seat them. The decor was quaint, of course, but it looked like someone at some point had tried to make the place more modern and just gave up. That didn't really change Luxury's opinion of the place, though, as the temperature was nice and it was the food and drink that made a cafe a cafe.

Just as a waitress came to seat them, Luxury felt her uniform hat being snatched off her head from behind and heard her little Purrloin make a giggling noise, which reminded her she needed to Pokeball the little cat. After doing that real quick, Luxury found herself walking a bit backwards, following the waitress and trying to figure out what happened to her hat.

Calico grunted at the 'get used to it' remark… Yeah, sure, just like a fish can get used to being out of water. Right. Ok. Not happening. The girl was pretty certain she could spend the rest of her life in Team Rocket, on this island, and never get used to the colder weather. Her teeth were chattering too much to respond, though.

This, of course, resulted in a nearly bitten tongue when the sweeping guy held the door for them. "Th-thank ya sssir!~" Calico nodded with a grin, and made an effort not to roll her eyes at the way Luxury blew the guy off. He was just trying to be nice… CJ understood she had issues with men, but couldn't understand why it was so encompassing and so… hostile? But like, a passive hostility… She was pretty sure if the last male on earth was on fire and Luxury had a glass of water, even if the water was poisoned she'd drink it before pouring it on the flames. CJ, on the other hand, would use her own body to smother the flames if she needed to be. For a criminal, she had a big heart and a lot of compassion for others.

She also had a thing for warm places. "Ohmyarceus," CJ breathed as the warm air hit her. After she returned Chevy since they were in a cafe, she followed her sister's lead and shimmied out of her long coat and scarf, as well as quickly removed her cowboy hat. Respect, man. Respect.

Respect that her sister didn't seem to share. When the waitress came to seat them and Luxury still hadn't taken her grunt hat off, CJ snatched it off herself and grinned when she heard Chora giggling at her for doing it. Luxury looked so confused and it was funny to see her trying to follow the waitress and figure out what just happened, but CJ was afraid she shared her clumsy trait and waved it in front of her face before the girl tripped over a brick of air or something. "Hats off in the cafe, sis~" She teased, which earned her a pouty glare and the hat was snatched back with a huff.

The poor waitress took their order for drinks -two hot chocolates of course- and quickly scurried away from the sisters in case their silliness continued.

What a brat! Luxury would never admit it, but being even jokingly scolded for lack of respect by her little sister was absolutely humiliating. CJ was totally right, though, but… Still. Ouch. She tried to play it off with a pouty face/glare combo and huffed as if annoyed, and just hoped her cheeks weren't turning pink. Well, pinker than they surely were from the cold wind outside, anyways.

"Yeah yeah yeah, miss cowgirl over here~ If ya'd given me a second more I'd have taken it off myself. Don't you be thinking you can teach me a thing or two, remember who the big sister is!" Honestly she'd never have thought about it, but she wasn't about to let CJ think she didn't have manners. Besides, she now had a chance to be the grown-up one, the respected one, the… the responsible one, which, as she thought about it, she realized she pretty much always had been. Well, the first and last ones, anyways. No one had respected her… But now, maybe CJ would. Lead by example, right? Well, even if she stumbled around a little she'd do her best to try to make sure her example was solid. Ish. Solid-ish.

Hey, can't do anything right if you don't try at all, right?

"Ok, so… Food. What should we get…" They'd left the base early, so it was around early afternoon, which mean lunch was the main thing they should be looking at. But… soups? Burgers? Something to just snack on? How hungry was CJ? Luxury felt her gut tighten a little bit and she peeked up at her sister. She was paying, and she knew how awful it felt when someone else would buy her food and she'd have the more expensive dish, even by a few cents. That someone else meaning her mother on the rare dinner out, and the feeling of 'omg I have to be the cheapest one' was still eating away at her. On the flip side, that meant there was no way she wanted CJ to feel like that, so rather than making sure to order the cheaper dish Luxury had to make sure to order the one that cost more. "Hm… I don't know Cali, what are you thinking?"

When in doubt, ask. And if Cali didn't know, Luxury would be sure to have a few options ready to spout out the second the waitress was done writing Cali's order down.

"Haha, I know I know, I just gotta give ya a hard time~" CJ was pretty sure Luxury didn't even think about the hat, but she wasn't about to embarrass her anymore than she probably already had. She may not have grown up with siblings, but she'd seen plenty of others in bigger families, and she was well aware that the bigger siblings took on a sense of self-pressure to be the perfect role model. That sort of clashed with CJ's desire to be independent and not need to look up to anyone, but… Well, Luxury was more important to her than her own pride.

Food… Hm. CJ skimmed the menu, looking at her options first. "Well… soup of the day is… clam chowder, which is always good, but… Not sure how well it'd go with hot chocolate?" A slight cringe from Luxury reflected her own feelings of doubt, and she laughed and moved on. "Fried pickles. Ok, pretty sure that's not any better but we're totally coming back here another time for those. Have ya had em?" Oohhh fried pickles were amazing, and CJ made it her mission to share them with the world. "You GOTTA try them next time, kay?" So that was next time… But for this time? When CJ reached the dinner menu, she hummed and flipped the pages back again. She figured she probably shouldn't order much, a full belly on a cold day was just miserable and with some food adding hot coco to the mix was really not fun at all. "Ohhhh, the waffles look good! I know it's past noon but mmmm strawberry waffles!"

And they had whipped cream, which could easily be put onto the chocolate and make it so much better.

Clam chowder and hot chocolate? The thought of that made Luxury's stomach do a little uncomfortable flip. Some things just didn't mix… And fried pickles sounded so much worse. "Haha yeahhhhhhh, that's a 'for next time' thing for sure! But yeah, I'll try them!" She'd never had them before, but she'd had fried green tomatoes, and those were good so surely pickles were too! "Ohhhh waffles. Yes. Screw the time of day, that's perfect." And easy to keep the same price of. Score! While CJ went for the strawberry waffles, Luxury set her sights on the chocolate chip ones. What was better than chocolate in your drink? Chocolate in your waffles. Not pancakes, though, those were… gross. Somehow.

"Do you like pancakes?" It was an innocent sounding question, but Luxury knew it could lead to interesting conversation. On the one hand, CJ could love pancakes just as much as waffles and not understand what the difference was. On the other, though, she could share Luxury's taste and be happy to find someone else who swears up and down those two things are /not/ the same. They may be made from the same batter, but the do /not/ taste the same. Luxury would swear this to her dying breath.
