Aw man, that really sucks. I wait for the GOTY edition of games most of the time so it's a real disappointment to me if they never come out with one. But sounds like they took it a step further and b'donked the whole thing up. Could you at least use the DLC from one store with a copy from the other?
There are a few mechanics in Sims 3 that I really like, but not enough to justify buying all of it. One thing I liked was the ability to change the color and texture of everything in the game, making downloaded sets unnecessary since everything can now match. I also liked the new personality creation process for Sims. They have a huge section of character traits and you can pick up to six of them for your character, instead of doing that thing where you fill the bar to decide their traits. Also, there's a whole lot more to them than "clean --> dirty", "mean --> nice". If there was a mod for Sims 2 that implemented something like that, I'd write Sims 3 off entirely. xD
And I know, right!? I have a washing machine and dryer set as well! I was strangely excited to find it. I guess it's exciting because it adds that little bit of extra immersion or something. XD; I think the mod that I like most though is this thing called Inteenimater. It does a lot of different things, but some of the stuff I like about it is 1) It makes it so that teen sims and young adult sims can carry their relationship over when one of them grows up. I always hated that I'd have two sims that I made for each other dating, then one would grow up before the other. You basically have to start their relationship from scratch. - . - 2) It makes it so that your sims have a certain percentage chance to have a baby when regular woo-hoo-ing. (It's more fun for it to be a surprise, imo. XD) But if you don't want them to have a baby yet, or they've had plenty, you can put your sim on birth control. You can also set it to turn off that tune that it plays when your sim gets pregnant so it really is a surprise. xD
It does some other stuff as well, but I forget what since I got it just for the above reasons.
Oooooh, then I learned something new today. XD Doesn't surprise me in the least that what I learned in high school wasn't really true. I've found that a good deal of what I learned before was either blatantly wrong or has since become outdated. I went to school when people were still teaching the Bohr Model of the atom and now we use the Quantum Mechanical Model, for example. xD;

Same. And the DLC for DAII can be played on Origins, it's designed too, it was just part of Microsoft's point system. With newer games they don't seem to still be doing that (Inquisition DLC thus far is all in the main Origins store not in a separate Bioware store) but they never moved the old DLC into their main store so that sucks. As point based things are never fairly priced in a real currency to game currency conversion it's super annoying and you usually have leftover points. I think it's a system designed to make you buy things without realising how expensive it is (probably like Gaia cash now) but that is still a d**k move. It's also why Dragon Age: Origins + all DLC is still on Steam but Dragon Age II was kicked off Steam (b/c it used to be on Steam). The Bioware DLC couldn't be played if you bought the game through Steam (you had to buy it through Origins) and so Valve was like fine go away DA:II and EA was like it's not our fault Valve kicked us off! I will probably even cave on the DLC eventually but not until I stop being a student and find one of those career things.
The texture thing does sound cool but it's more of an irritant in Sims 2 rather than something to upgrade for. Traits in Sims 2 don't really impact what you can make your characters do (just some things take longer/are harder to get done if their personality is more 'mean' or 'dirty'), so I kind of worried it would feel too restrictive in Sims 3 but honestly haven't tried the mechanic to know. It does sound more organic but I also like to create convoluted relationships that is harder to manage the more compatible they need to be. E.g. I'll make a couple, and then have one member of couple cheat on their partner with said partner's brother, and then they run off together, etc etc. I assume this still isn't the case with Sims 4 but I have no idea, but I think what Sims needs at this stage is more diverse family options. E.g. step relations (that you can create in the make the Sims menu and not just by having two different Sims get married as that takes up part of their lifetime), non-marriage partnerships, polyamorous relations (b/c even romance sims are not cool with sharing partners which is ridiculous). I want to break the nuclear family, that would be a mechanic worth upgrading for.
Yea the washer/dryer is definitely contributing to the immersive for me which I love. Do you happen to know where you got the Inteenimater mod is? B/c that sounds like a good one. If not or if it doesn't exist anymore that's cool (if it's the former I'll give it a search when I have a chance, if it's the latter oh well). I did finally figure out some mods for eyes (by downloading mods for Sims rather than parts and then just using the parts of those Sims), I'll figure it out eventually (maybe). xd
When I was in school my history book had the USSR in it, however, I am not THAT old, my history text was just that out of date. But yea, I think also formative education really generalises things a lot and so rather than giving more depth and nuance on fewer things they take a sweeping approach, particularly to humanities subjects which is so frustrating now that I'm on the other side of the fence and trying to break undergrads of that habit. Like one student wrote in a paper that "back then people didn't understand that serious things could also be funny" and I'm like arrrrrgh, yes they did! Nuance, sarcasm and innuendo were NOT invented in the 20th century.

Yeah, I have no doubt that they do the point systems to get you to spend more. Also, because you almost always end up having leftovers, you'll be more likely to spend more money so that you can use the rest of your points. After all, you spent money on them, why not use them all? It's a crappy system, imo. > - < Ha ha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that plays out stories with my sims. About 90% of my play time is creating families and coming up with background info and scenarios to play through. xD; As for the traits in Sims 3, I don't feel like it affects gameplay in a negative way. It's kind of more helpful because I'll make a sim with the intention of having them act a certain way, but in Sims 2, there's really not anything to keep me from making them act different. In Sims 3, if you give them the "grouchy" trait, it's possible to make them not grouchy, but it's fun to see how the options you can choose change. And the way they interact with other sims is different too. ^^ Also, I bet you could find a mod that adds different relationship choices. Pretty sure I saw one once before that added a multiple partner option. I didn't download it though so I can't say for certain. ^^; Luckily, I bookmark everything and never delete it so I do have the Inteenimater link still. XD http://www.simbology.com/mods/index.php?dir=inteen/inteenimater/&sort=date&order=descIt can be a little difficult to install if you aren't used to mods, but I've done it 4 or 5 times so if you need any help, let me know. ^^ Huh, I can't figure out why someone would think that anyway. That's basically "people didn't develop a sense of humor until the 20th century". xD; I can definitely see how that would be irritating. I go through stuff like that with my siblings and my parents, except about science. I love reading about new scientific discoveries/theories, especially if it pertains to astronomy/astrophysics or quantum physics, but they all only know that they were taught in school (And that was ages ago for my parents! XD) so they like to argue with me. @ o @

It's definitely a crappy system, it's why I'm more likely to re-buy DAII for Playstation as they've done away with the points system for the game, but for now holding out hope eventually Microsoft/EA will be able to do the same. It's just not good enough content to justify buying points.
I definitely play out stories, although I'm always pretty lazy about writing it into the info boxes, I just keep it in my head but that means I might forget some stuff if I come back to a city/family after several years. I guess if the mood stuff isn't that strict (but still influential) maybe it would be fun. I guess we'll see if I can afford the Sims 4 before I ever find Sims 3 massively reduced. I haven't seen any mods for changing family dynamics but also not entirely sure what would be the best search terms for that. At the moment going to be really busy with work for awhile so will have to put it off. Thanks for the Inteenimater link though, bookmarked it for when I'll have time again. Will probably shoot you a message when I do as it looks a bit more complicated than what I've done thus far.
It's definitely frustrating when someone who has a limited knowledge about something and is not making the effort to increase that knowledge want to be argumentative or in denial about a subject. Being interested is great, stubborn not so much. But yea I think things like that essay are the result of not really having a very in depth argument and just kind of rambling. I certainly did it at some points in my undergrad though I like to convince myself I had a bit of a better basis for what I was doing than that.

I almost never actually write it down either. Occasionally I write a short summary in the family description just to remind me what I was intending when I made them. XD I have a couple stories that I like to play through. For example, I always have a family that get alien pregnant so I come up with different scenarios for that to happen. I also like to have a vampire sim, but the situation surrounding the sim is different every time.
And yeah, just PM me when you're ready to install Inteenimater. I'd be glad to help. biggrin
I know, right? I have no problem if I'm talking to someone about something and we exchange information. I love learning new things so I'm just like "Cool! I know something that I didn't know before!" Aggravating when others can't be like that as well. Especially when it's something that's factual. > o <

I always want to write it down but tend to put it off until I'm in the mood to write a proper story out rather than make some sketch notes, which tends to end up being never. But maybe when I stop the student thing. Trying to find new ways to push me back into writing creatively, writing character stories for the Sims would be an easy exercise toward that. I don't think I ever have standard family types. Sometimes I try to make worlds based on series or on real people, but I have no standard rules for any OC types I come up with, although the main special sim type I play with are witches. I usually don't have the patience to get abducted (I don't want to just use cheats) and the plant sims kind of freak me out. Plus I hate their shortened lifespan. Though the one thing I've never done in game is figure out werewolves, so it's usually the standard thing I put in the not attractive box for Sim personalities when I don't actually want there to be anything that repels them. I wish ghosts were interactive, that'd be interesting.
Will do. biggrin
And yea the most frustrating thing is trying to have a discussion about something that is undeniably factual with someone who wants to argue on a belief basis. I usually avoid the discussion all together but it's pretty frustrating to see that level of ignorance out there. Like arguing with a three year old who is covering his ears and going la la la la.

Ha ha, I do the same thing with the werewolves. I had been excited about the werewolf sims initially, but once I got the expansion that had them, I never made a werewolf sim. So I use the werewolf trait in the no attraction box too. It would be so awesome if there were ways to interact with ghosts. I'd be able to come up with all kinds of goofy scenarios. xD
Ugh, I know what you mean. It's so pointless, but I find myself baited into arguing with people like that way more often than I would like. x - x

Yea, I'm not even sure how the werewolves were meant to fit into the game? I never came across one (whereas it's easy to find vampires and witches or to get abducted) and I'm not even sure if the cheat mod has an option for turn into werewolf (it does for vampire). There were haunts and stuff for all the other non-human types but nothing really fitting werewolf lore, or culture, or anything. So that's a bit disappointing. I also realised the extractor I downloaded to open the mod packages was a trial so had to find a new one. I feel like that kind of stuff should really be standard kit, it's like Word still not being free in 2015 (and Works no longer being included as the free package option, in fact I preferred it to Word). I mean who makes a computer and sells it without a word processor? That just seems baffling, and just like most DLC, a complete and unfair money suck.
I'm probably the same, though I tend to just tread carefully around certain subjects with people whose ideals I know conflict with mine (and do tend to mostly find myself surrounded with like minded people, we'll see how that goes moving on from uni into the work world though). But yea it's hard to let the bait go, or perhaps it's foolish optimism.

I always thought it was weird that they didn't include a whole lot of content for the werewolves. Maybe they added them as an afterthought? Also, I use 7-zip for my zipped files. It's free and opens every compressed file I've ever come across. If you want it, it's easy to find on Google. :3 And I know what you mean! I was really disappointed when I found out I didn't have Works on my computer after moving to 7. But for word processors I use Open Office. It's free too~
Yup, same here. Religion, politics, and books vs movies are the three things that I try really hard not to talk about. (Jk with the "books vs movies". Though it does get heated sometimes, depending on who I'm talking to and what about. XD) But those are more opinion-based topics. I try to be more understanding about those kinds of discussions, assuming the other party treats me fairly as well. It's when the discussion is about factual and easily proven topics that it's irritating to me to have someone disagree without at least checking. xD

Perhaps that would explain it, because yea I can't think of any content that's actually related to werewolves. And yea 7-zip is what I downloaded when I realised WinZip was just a trial. WinZip was slightly easier to use but I actually like 7-zip better in terms of how it opens packages so I'm happy with it. I basically Googled free extractors and while 7-zip was the second option on the list, and the first option (pea something) opened 4 times as many different packages, it sounded way more complicated to use. So I thought I'll get 7-zip, if it opens my files I'll use that. It opened my files so yay! xd
Yea religion and politics are the big avoids for me as well. I did put my foot in my mouth a bit during elections in the UK back in spring when I didn't realise one of my friends actually supported a party that were I a British citizen I wouldn't have (and my partner doesn't), but we were polite about it and tried to discuss things we did agree on and I think it smoothed over. But yea I try to respect the opinions of others in regards to these things so long as they respect that their opinion is not the only one and that they are tolerant and accepting of other views and beliefs. I have no patience or respect for people if they prove to be intolerant though (I feel why treat them the way they don't treat others), but again I don't like confrontation so I more try to ignore them and fade away rather than get into it.
Books vs movies I can't say I've gotten into a lot although it used to easily be the book is always better, but I have several things now where I probably prefer the movies, especially things where the books aren't great and have a tendency not to end well like most YA series. Although I also prefer the LOTR films to the books, but they were very good films, and I think the pacing was better in the films than the books (which were written by an academic who considered these texts the trivial and uninteresting aspects of his repertoire). And then there are things like The Hobbit where it almost doesn't seem like a fair comparison can be made between books and film, barring a vague retention of the main story events The Hobbit films were a very different story (for a very different audience) than the book. I enjoyed both but I just couldn't state a preference, they just aren't similar enough. Oh no what am I starting? This isn't avoiding at all. *flees* stressed

Yeah, 7-zip is my go-to extraction program. It's always one of the first programs that I install when I get a new computer/OS 'cause it's so handy. xD
That's good that y'all were able to easily move past the disagreement though! I've met so many people who will purposefully start a discussion about touchy subjects just so that they can be hateful about it. Then when you try to change the subject, they just won't have it. x o x
Yeah, I'm not of the opinion that books are always better than movies, but there are quite a few cases where I prefer books to movies. I actually enjoy LOTR equally between the books and movies for different reasons. But I honestly wasn't hugely impressed with The Hobbit. It felt too busy, like they were trying to hard to show the connection between the two movie series. I would've enjoyed it much more if they had stuck closer to the much simpler story that the book told. BUT I can understand why others wouldn't find it as much of a distraction as I did so I wouldn't argue if you said you liked the films better. XD;

Yea I think it'll become one of my go to programs as well. I haven't had a huge need for an extraction program prior to sim mods but there have been a few occasions where a workaround was a bit of a headache. Good to know of a good, reliable and most importantly, free option.
Yea I really liked the first Hobbit film but the other two I think lost something in trying to much to be like LOTR, losing track of the feel of the source material and just being too padded and bloated. I'd definitely prefer rushed pacing to dragged out pacing (obviously properly paced is best but if I have to take a sin I'd almost always go for the rush as long as it wasn't to the point of ridiculous and impossible to follow). It has been so long since I read The Hobbit book that I probably can't fairly compare, or to decide whether I'd have preferred something closer to the text. Although I did end up thinking that the films changed so much I kind of wish they just changed the end. Fine movie, you sold me on that romance I was all set to hate, couldn't you have just ignored the book (like you did so many times) and have them skip off into daises but just let everyone assume death (hence not canon interfering and explaining the loss of the made up character nobody wanted)? I think it probably would have been awful but I couldn't help wanting it anyhow.
