Creepers Course selected!

Halloween was a very special time of year for their world, but Bastion had never given himself leave to explore any of the frivolities of the season. This year would be different. He made a point of heading down to the Amityville grounds, and taking the chance at whatever activities they had set up. The decorations were a sight, and the food was fun to try, but Bastion knew he was most interested in testing himself against the games and challenges that had been set up for the general public to make use of. What better way to celebrate the night of true fear, than by testing out your ability to be scary?

He slipped into the shadows as though they were home, and found a couple of harmless gnomes just waiting for him. He touched one on the shoulder, and disappeared. The sound of a tiny screech was music to his ears, as was the pitter patter of both gnomes running away in terror. One had startled the other so badly that they were both stumbling over one another to try and get away. It was an amusing sight, and Bastion knew this was only the first of many to come.

Ah, yes. This challenge was going to be great fun!

It would have been nicer if Bastion had managed to get a perfect score in his challenge. He had done an excellent job on the first find, and thought that would carry on forward as he continued. But as the Death Horseman slunk through the shadows, using his skin color and his light feet to his advantage, he would soon come to find that fate would never be that kind to him.

He found a new goal, in a little gnome that stood alone in a patch of wood, warily looking around him. The gnome was cautious, not scared; he was paying attention, and Bastion knew that would just make this a more satisfying challenge. He moved silently through the brush, edging forward until he was right upon the gnome, and his looming form prepared to frighten-

But his foot snapped a twig underneath his last footstep, and he froze in horror as the gnome swiveled around and glared up at him. The little creature pointed both of his hands up as if to say 'gotcha', and then snickered as he walked away. Bastion's looming presence slumped in failure, and he slithered back into the shadows to try again.

Better luck next time, Bastion.

It wasn't the same two gnomes, but Bastion could not be surprised that these little creatures would try to group together often. After all, they were small, and it was dark - and it was their job to be frightened. Could he really blame them for trying to cling to another innocent life while doing so?

He snuck up on the shaking duo, and ducked behind the tree they were resting on. His nimble fingers slipped around it and brushed on the shoulder of the left one, a young male who was at least attempting to act like the braver of the two. He pattered across the shoulder like a spider would walk, and was rewarded with a very satisfying yelp.

The male's yelp had the female jumping into the air, and she took off like a rocket into the night with her hand still firmly attached to his. He never had a chance to catch his footing, and she was basically dragging him along as she fleed whatever it was that had scared him in the night.

That was funnier than he'd expected. He knew he should have felt a stab of guilt for that poor, dragged male, but he found no such guilt resided in his heart. Sorry, little friend, but at least you have someone to drag you around at all.

A third duo was lurking in the shadows, trying to find perpetrators before they found them. Two little male creatures, clinging to each other just as hard as the previous duo, were skulking through the dark forest with hesitant, careful steps. He summoned every ounce of stealth he could muster for this particular duo, sneaking behind them and falling into step with their own footsteps. They heard nothing, because each of his footfalls matched their own. When they stopped, he stopped. When they moved, he moved. And when they turned, he was nowhere to be seen.

He tapped the shoulder of the taller creature, his nails digging deep in order to get a definite response. He received one - the creature screamed a high pitched screech, and swiveled around with his hands in some sort of martial arts position. The second gnome, too spooked by the scream, just started running. The first decided that he was no match for the shadows alone, and followed.

Success.
