That. That didn't quite look like the kind of thing that Tambrey had expected. And now the Zorua looked confused /and/ anxious.

"Uh. Hm. Well, okay. You might want to, uh, reassure her that this place is safe, but I suppose that.. might interfere with the effectiveness of the test. I guess that'll do for now. Um. Yes, they can only reproduce things they know, so you need to teach her something first. Something, uh, simple would be a good idea. She has the innate skill for it, but no content to reproduce, so a simplistic test would be good first."

Dismissing the thought of assuring Zorua of her safety - as Tambrey said, it may interfere with the tests, and he had no desire to do such a thing - Sync instead focused on the latter suggestion. Teach her something... He had to teach her something? While that made perfect sense, he couldn't help but be vaguely annoyed by it. His other pokemon only needed to be taught coordination and better battling - like himself - but it seemed like this one would need to be taught a wide variety of things to make use of her illusion abilities. Again, it made perfect sense, but he couldn't help but be vaguely annoyed by that fact. Annoyance would get him no where, though, so instead he nodded. "All right." He was about to move forward to teach her something when he realized... He didn't have anything simple in mind. How did one teach these things?

Hmm... Something simple, something simple... His fingers flexed around the pokeball still in his hand, and he peered down at it for a moment or two before he held it up for Tambrey to see, "Would something like this work?"

Tambrey waited patiently, smiled encouragingly at his 'alright', and then smiled an affirmation, complete with nod, when Sync settled on the pokéball and asked whether it would do.

After a microsecond of a pause, she also decided that she'd probably also better justify it, or give some reason, for /why/ the pokéball was good to start with.

"Simple shape with simplistic features and very basic colours. Yep, um, that should be easy enough to reproduce, I think..."

"Alright," he said again with a nod. Pokeball in hand, he strode over to the dark-type once more before he knelt down to show the sphere to her. He turned it all around in his hands, displaying all sides for her, before setting it down on the floor in front of her. After saying a few quick words to her, he straightened up again and stepped back to observe.

The little fox's gaze darted back and forth between the green-haired human and the ball he placed in front of her for a few moments before she dutifully tried to replicate it. A second pokeball shimmered into view next to the first. It wavered, disappeared, then reappeared again, and proceeded to flicker and fade in and out as the dark-type's gaze incessantly darted around to the humans, the real pokeball, and her illusion.

Tambrey scribbled something down with a stylus she took out of a small holder in the plastic of her pad; apparently using some kind of handwriting app to record her shorthand.

She smiled encouragingly at Sync, and at the Zorua, then gave a thumbs up after writing whatever it was down.
"That's, um, a really good start! Considering that's her first ever illusion! I, um," she was hesitant to offer this explanation, in case Sync took too much meaning in it and proceeded to just scare his pokémon all the time, but she supposed he really had to know the organism he now possessed.
"suppose I should explain that, uh, a lot of her stronger responses will be instinctual, and defensive. Um, triggered by her flight-or-fight reflex. Her instinct will be to call up an illusion to protect herself, and, well, with her, um, unique brain chemistry she'll be utilizing her creativity at a subconscious level. She'll, um, still have the limitation of having to produce things she's come across and experienced before but, uh, she should be more naturally adept at it, because she's been engineered, not only with illusion as a stronger default response to threat but with the hormonal imbalance designed to stimulate the creative process involved in it. In short, uh, she'll be nervous a lot, but that disposition is actually beneficial to her skill." The scientist paused, then added "She might develop a fondness or craving for certain foods, so, uh, if you notice anything like that, it'd be appreciated if you'd let me know."

Since Sync had limited experience with Zorua and its abilities, he turned to Tambrey for her assessment. 'Really good' she'd said, but it flickered far too much for his liking... She did have a point though; while someone could have a natural affinity for an ability, it still would need honing and practice to make proper use of it.

As Tambrey went into more detail, the grunt's gaze shifted to the dark-type in question. Zorua, for her part, ceased her illusion and remained huddled on the floor, wide-eyed and anxious. Sync turned back to Tambrey and dwelt on her words for a few more moments before he responded, "That makes sense," or about as much sense as it could, given he didn't have much knowledge at all about anything science-related. "So it sounds like," he summarized, glancing back down at the Zorua, "I'll need to get her more experiences with whatever I want her to make illusions of. Won't that nervousness inhibit her ability to concentrate though?" He queried, raising a brow a little with a hint of skepticism in his expression. Beneficial in one way, detrimental in another perhaps? Ah, and he'd have to pay attention to what she liked to eat? Seriously? Well, that was the trade-off, he supposed, for getting a pokemon that had the potential to be essential to his slowly growing team.

"Yes, ordinarily most definitely yes!" Tambrey agreed, with a slightly smile. "See, her lack of, uh, concentration is definitely a drawback to some degree, but we've tampered with her very creativity and linked it to her instincts. So, the more you train her to concentrate, the even better she'll be at this, but she's already got the edge over a nervous Zorua that we haven't altered."

She nodded again.
"Anyway, yes. You need her to experience things you might want her to reproduce, as often as possible. She will have an instinctual ability to produce whatever she might have seen, whatever she can, with a decent about of detail, but the more she studies things, the, uh, better she can reproduce them. That's a standard with Zorua, of course, though I would reiterate that she, uh, has the edge there." She glanced sympathetically at the nervous thing. "Perhaps only in that respect- you'll have to train her well to have an effective battler."
