[PRP] Knockout [Glassjaw/Plaything]

If she heard him, she showed no sign, studiously tracing each glittering facet. Only when she was satisfied, having run from one end to the other, did she step back.

Then she ran.

Soundless steps, weaving through the green - her flame-licked tail held high, a marker in the distance like a drifting will-o'-the-wisp.

Jolted from his false sense of security, Glassjaw called after her once more, legs leaping into motion after the uncatchable prey. With her light pelt and her bobbing tail, he barely saw anything else around it as he chased. It was sheer muscle memory that kept him from tripping over the shrubbery and muck between the two.

Did she mean for him to follow? She must have, her tail like a light - but she did not pause, nor dally, nor turn to look for his glittering frame. Perhaps she trusted, perhaps not; perhaps it didn't matter.

She ran, each step the same as the last, till the dark mouth of a cave loomed before her, and swallowed her whole.

Glassjaw was no stranger to caves, and with the mystery of the silent doe yet unsolved, he did not hesitate to run in after her. It was only when he realised that this was the darkest cave he'd ever been in that he paused, trying to figure out if he could even tell which direction was the exit. And where was she - ?

Silence. Silence and darkness all around. Silence interminable.

Then there were hoofsteps. The lightest of hoofsteps, like the tap of glass.

It was the darkest cave, and yet, when she came before him, still she seemed fire-touched.

Still her dead eyes stared.

And then, a whisper like the lick of flame, she spoke: "Let's play."
