Dawn, though frigid, was the ideal time for his hunt, opalesque eyes scanning the snow-glistened ground for peeks of orange petals. The marigolds were most vibrant contrasted against the dampened earth in the early rays of February, when Spring began to stir from its slumber under its white blanket. The star-speckled buck had waited patiently all Winter long for the bright orange buds to bloom, and this morning as the sun crept up into the sky seemed to be the one to hold its promise.

Sea of Stars dipped his carbon colored horn to the ground, clearing away some rotted leaves from the tiny golden blooms he was looking for. He plucked them with his mouth and situated the stems behind his ear so he may gather more if he came across them. He thought of how lovely they would turn out when they were pressed, decorating his little den with the other pressed flora he had collected. He continued his search diligently, a soft tune on his tongue and a swing in his tail.

To a young adult such as Event Horizon, this was truly a magical time of year. First it had been the snowdrops and the crocuses, and then violets, and a riot of other blooms that broke through the melting pools of snow and reached their tender, delicious blooms up. Deceptively, those inviting flowers could be poisonous– if they had bulbs at the base, they would lead a kin to sicken if they had too much, and that would not do at all.

An enterprising doe such as herself was quick to find a little stand and, before risking a stomachache at the hand of the tender flowers, begin digging with a careful hoof, until the real treasures were found. If her rooting indicated a perennial, they were best left alone... but on occasion, she came across a promising group of plants that turned out to be spicy, crisp and cool– like this charmingly golden stand of plants– something she was familiar with by sight and experience but not name.

The doe paid no mind to the approaching buck as she continued nibbling at her prize.

Star's ears twitched as he heard the smallest rustling noise from somewhere in front of him, raising his head from where it was bowed in search of the telltale golden buds. With another few steps forward he glimpsed a rather vibrant multi-colored tail off to his right.

Upon further inspection this tail was connected to a doe that sported a coat quite similar in shade to the flowers he was looking for. When he reached a place where he could see her face, he realized that she had been snacking on just the flower he was looking for.

"Hello there."
He stated, taking a small step in her direction. "Never thought about trying to eat that flower, is it any good?" he asked, motioning to the golden plant by her feet with the buds behind his ear.

As calm and graceful as ever, Divide finished her mouthful daintily before turning to regard the kin who'd approached her. He was a strapping thing, with a hypnotic bust of colours fading into an almost unreal darkness, like the parts of him that weren't bright and glowing were claimed by the void. Contrasted by the white fire-glows on his pelt as they were, the effect was very handsome indeed.

"Oh, yes, they're lovely," she responded. "I prefer them earlier in the season, before the insects start laying their eggs in them. They have a delightful texture!" Her voice was every bit as soft and restrained as the rest of her as she moved to the side, so that she wouldn't be monopolizing the stand of flowers, or forcing him to come closer to her than he might be comfortable with.

"There's plenty enough to share here, if you'd like. I'm Event Horizon– though I tend to go by Divide in casual conversation. A It's a pleasure to have your company."

The midnight buck watched the doe watch him, taking in her words that were softly lilting to the ear. Her movements were so smooth and flowing that she almost appeared dreamy in the faint morning light.

She truly was a vision, from the gold licking up her legs to sunset orange to streak of black, the laced necklace pattern entrancing. Her hair and tail looked to be dipped in the most indo pool he could imagine, appearing silky and completely free of tangles.

Such company on such an early day was a gift indeed.

"Do they?" he posed the question, approaching the small patch when she gracefully made room for him. Yes, the doe was even more spectacular up close. The flower's vibrant hues paled in comparison to the pelt of the doe next to him. He dipped his head to nibble at one of the flowers, noting the slightly spicy-cool flavor and the texture that she had mentioned.

"Indeed, the texture is quite enjoyable." he declared softly after finishing the treat. The stems that were tucked so neatly away fell from behind his ear as he straightened up, a slightly troubled look crossing over his face. "Oh dear." he murmured, thinking about how laborious it was to get them settled in the first place.

The buck was about to bend to pick them up again when the doe introduced herself. Not wanting to be rude, he met her eyes, the name gracing his ears. "What a fitting name." he observed before introducing himself. "I go by Sea of Stars." He said with a slight bow of his front leg. "The pleasure is all mine." he countered as he straightened again, a playful smile tugging at his lips.

"Would you mind helping me with these?" he asked, nodding at the flowers that had dropped from their perch. "It was more difficult to situate them than you'd think." he added, opal eyes glinting.

The doe chuckled. "Believe you me, I do know how difficult it can be." She made sure to give him an eyeful of the feather ornament carefully tucked behind her ear, braided into her hair, as she moved to pick up the flower and carefully tuck it just-so.

"There you are, then," she responded lightly. She backed up a little, to admire the result.
