[Bless] Solemn Request [Peep/Brusque]

Peep didn’t intend to make the buck wait but she was telling a story to the foals and she didn’t think he would mind listening in while she finished up. She sat with her legs curled up, the foals ringing her, their eyes bright.

“- and the doe fought with all her strength and although she was small, nothing could stop her, not even the dreaded rabid Spiderlion. The poison burned her and its claws raked her skin but she was determined to save her brothers and sisters.

It would eat them, gobble them up, and she would not allow it. So she fought and fought, all day and night and then until time had no meaning. When she thought she might finally fail, the MotherFather gave her the strength to carry on. She was the earth itself, the stars, the sky, the sun.

They say she continues to fight even now and her family lived and had children and that bloodline still thrives. Yet she must continue her battle, so that her enemy never escapes into the Swamp again.”

There was chattering afterwards, discussing the merits and meaning, playacting the battle, laughter and jokes, consoling the one sensitive one who cried over the doe and her endless struggle. Eventually the area cleared and Peep finally looked over at the buck, waited with a warm smile.

Brusque was at once impressed and mildy confused by the creation of Spiderlion, and he wasn't sure either species could be rabid, but he stood a while away from the captivated babies and waited for the animated mare to finish. Upon the signal, he came over and nodded.

"- and the small doe came to hold court over little foals upon her retirement?" He suggested, voice even, but a small smile touched the corners of his lips as a child tripped over their hooves nearby.

"Perhaps," she replied, her own smile broad and content. "That would be a nice end for the story."

There was a burst of sound in the distance as the children swarmed Lionhearted as she returned from patrolling the border. Peep turned her head to watch for a moment.

"You're going to be a father," she said when she finally looked back at him, "but you already know that." Peep hummed thoughtfully. "Do you have any requests for how I bless your children?"

"Stories for such kin never do end, do they?" He looked her in the eye when her gaze returned - to be honest, he was watching the foals as well. "I'd come for a...contigency plan. Their mother is somewhat...erratic, volatile. I merely hope they turn out all right."

What 'all right' was, he did not say. It seemed in his eyes, he trusted in her judgment.

"Every foal is all right, born as intended and a blessing to the Swamp," she said softly, clearly amused. "Though it doesn't hurt to give them a nudge in the right direction."

Peep blinked, slow and ease, too comfortable to bother rising. She didn't need to. Her smile was a comforting embrace. "Well then, may they be healthy, as always, and steady in heart and mind. May they be all right."

"Thank you," he said, stoically, but heartfelt, "for your words nad your blessing." He bowed his head deeply, and took his leave, to play with a lamb as best he could.
