Naevius led the man out of the taming pens and back towards the palace. She nodded respectfully at anyone they might have passed who stopped and showed their respect, it was only a few people but Nae tried to acknowledge them all. With half an eye roll at Mash'als comment, the woman said nothing. He had started following her of his own will so she didn't feel inclined to share their destination, especially as he was free to do as he wished. As they got back to the palace, instead of taking one of the entrances Naevius turned onto a small garden path. This particular path led to one of Nae’s other favorite spots at the palace, a garden. She was about to open the gate when it swung open for her by a small oban woman who had noticed their approach. A smile was given with a soft “Thank you.” Naevius gestured to a small table in some shade that had 4 chairs around it, she took the one that had the fullest view of the garden yet still turned her chair slightly inward towards the table. “Please sit.” She said to Mash'al.

“Oaksa, would you fetch a pitcher of mead from the kitchen for us, please? Thank you.” Naevius smiled once more as the oban woman disappeared into the Palace. She turned back to her company then, “So, Mash'al, did you get the chance to tame any of the Tendajian beasts during your time there?” It was only a short time later that the maid appeared with a pitcher, two cups in hand, and a small plate of food. With a smile of her own, she placed the cups in front of each of the tables occupants and poured a cup for each. “I just harvested these this morning, I remembered when you came down to get some the last weekend when you were in the capital but they weren't ripe yet. I was going to send some up to your rooms, and I still can if you wish. Do you need anything else, Princess?”

“That's very kind of you, Oaksa, I'm surprised you remembered. Thank you very much, I think we have everything we could need, thanks to you.” Oaksa smiled and curtsied as she made her way back to tend the garden. Nae smiled as she watched the woman tend the garden again. She delicately put one of the chunks of fruit in her mouth and closed her eyes with a “mmmmm”. It was just right, sweet but not too much so and not overripe where it loses its texture and becomes mush. “Try some of these, they're amazing.” Nae said, offering the plate to him.

Mash'al took a seat at Naevius's request and watched as the interaction with the palace help transpired. 'Any dignitary visiting the palace would be waited on by the palace staff... This proves nothing.' He told himself as he crossed one leg over the other, but did he really believe it or was it just self-assurance to make him not feel quite as much like an a** when he was wrong. As the oban woman returned she placed two glasses on the table, an arms reach away, and poured the contents of the pitcher. Setting that aside she also brought over a plate of gardened fruits that appeared to be a favorite of Nae's.

As the two conversed he took a sip of the mead and flinched momentarily at the sweetness; quite different from his usual poison. 'It had a pleasant finish though,' he thought while swirling the contents, examining the color, taking in the aroma. As he went for another sip he was struck by the words:

"Do you need anything else, Princess?"

The liquid half poured into his mouth, he tipped the glass upright, promptly set it down and coughed slightly as did his best to keep from spewing the contents of his mouth. Swallowing hard he grappled for a handkerchief he always carried with him and dabbed the corners of his mouth. The princess hadn't seemed to notice his mini freak out, or from what he gathered in their earlier conversations, she was politely reveling in his surprise; cursed woman~

As the Oban maid left them... alone... in the garden... To continue to make an a** of himself, Mash'al watched as Nae plucked a fruit from the platter, chewed, then offered him some. He could feel the irritation building, for some odd reason directed at her. As if He had been deceived by her this entire time. As if she withheld information or merely wanted to see him make a fool of himself. Oz had warned him, but in an ominous sort of figure it out for yourself sort of way. 'That rat b*****d...' He thought still stewing in self-loathing. Looking for a place to lay the blame, he made a complete circle of the events of the day and realized... He had no one to blame but himself.

With that determined, he smiled politely and plucked a fruit from the platter, "You are too kind, M'lady." He purred while partaking in more sweet things - a similar taste to the mead... Perhaps it was an ingredient, or the sweetness rotted his refined pallet; It was hard to say. Presently, he found himself stuck in the turmoil of his own mind, eager to do anything but be where he was... He has successfully embarrassed himself, embarrassed his family name, and embarrassed his company - essentially everything he stood for. It was eating away at him, but his body was still going through the motions. Unsure of what he could say he simply sat in silence, taking in the greenery of the gardens, slowly sipping his nectar-like beverage, and occasionally daring to venture back to the fruit platter and pluck a morsel or two.

Naevius was content to sit in the silence for a few moments as they both savored (or at least Nae did) the food and drink before them. Even with company, Nae found herself in her usual sense of calm as every other time she visited this particular garden. She wondered if Mash'al enjoyed this kind of thing as well and got the same sense of calmness from it. But, judging by what she knew of him, he was more likely to feel at home in a bar or crowded place. Nae found herself eyeing him. Despite what she knew of him he was still a relative mystery, one she wouldn't mind getting a chance to know, regardless of his quirks it made him all the more interesting. Besides, he traveled to Tendaji and got to experience their native beasts, ones she only got to deal with once they'd made the long trip across the deserts of Oba.

"The next time you're in the capital, you'll have to tell me how the beasts of the other nations behave in their native environments. There's only so much I can learn from observing them here or reading books. If you wouldn't mind of course." With a smile, she cocked her head in question to him. She hoped she was clear that it wasn't an order, simply a request to another tamer to share information. Though that in itself could be deemed valuable.

"Of course, M'Lady." He cooed while setting aside his recently emptied glass, "It would bring me great pleasure to regale the stories of my travels to you..." Mash'al could feel the rigidity of his speech... so formal, so mechanical. This was likely the very thing she was attempting to avoid by hiding her identity in the first place.

Biting the inside of his lip Mash'al scowled as he fought his own comfort, his own nature, the very thing ingrained into him as a child. Leaning in across the table he gave Naevius an amused smile, "Though I must say... It's not nearly as interesting as you may think." The truth hurt, but for most of his travels outside the lands of Oba he was unarmed, lacking clothes, armor, basic necessities, and the wildlife wasn't very hospitable, "I'll be sure to spice it up a bit for you~"

He gave a laugh and rose from the chair, "As amusing as this must have been for you, My dear princess, I'm afraid I must take my leave~" Sliding the stool back under the table he offered an arm, "Though last I was here was under less pleasant circumstances... Perhaps you would like to escort me out, lest I am tossed out by a guard?" He snorted back a laugh, "I was informed my last exit left quite the impression - I would do well not to repeat it~"

Mash'al remained fairly calm, but on the inside his mind was screaming. His father had likely rolled thrice in his grave over this last display he had made to The princess... Their princess... Of Oba, but something about her seemed so much more forgiving than most nobles. She didn't seem the type to pay a small fortune to assassinate your second cousin as a slight against your family for making an a** of yourself at the last formal affair. Of course, It was all part of the great game~ Everyone had to endure it- lest noble life become too mundane.

Naevius could feel the corners of her mouth twitch down at the change in his speech. She supposed he finally believed her now, seeing as though he changed his tempo...for a moment at least. It was something she was used to and a sense of disappointment welled within her. Princess Naevius was not what people expected and she wondered herself if she let others down by not being the typical princess they probably all wanted her to be.

Resisting the small head shake she normally did to clear her thoughts, Nae returned his smile. He was making an attempt, it appeared, for which she was grateful. "Information is information, dull or not." It didn't have to be exciting, there was much about her life that wasn't. She did give him a nod, though, as he stood to excuse himself. Politely taking his arm, she still kept distance between them as they exited the garden and went back towards the beast taming pens. It was where they met so it seemed to be a safe place to leave him. "It was a pleasure to meet you, I look forward to next time." Who knew when that would be, or if it would even happen. Nevertheless, she smiled and did her own small curtsy before turning and heading back towards the palace. Surely there was work waiting for her.
