Deep in the swamp, a yellow doe was wandering, rather aimlessly. There was a dreamy sort of look on her face, and though she followed her path just fine, it was clear that she probably wasn’t paying quite as much attention to her surroundings as she should have been. Luckily, it was a cold day, and there wasn’t much traffic to be worried about. A sigh escaped her as she turned a corner, her unfocused eyes narrowing with thought.

I doe was Citrine Twilight. She was happy, almost walking on the crisp air that surrounded her, but there was an underlying uneasiness. She had spent the day previous becoming acquainted with a handsome buck she’d met by chance on a morning walk. He was charming – at least, by her standards; not many could bring her out of her shell, but within a few hours of knowing him she’d found herself divulging any number of useless facts and stories about her life. He had eventually responded in kind, of course, after she’d realized just how much time they’d spent talking about her… She was amazed when a full day had passed, the moon was high above, and she was still enraptured by their conversation. In the end, they hardly slept a wink all night…

The troubling part was that she never did such things. She had allowed herself to get closer to him than she had to anyone, and now she was wandering alone through the swamp. He hadn’t snuck away, they had shared a farewell, even hinted at “see you later,” but… well. That didn’t change the circumstances of their departure. It took only a day for him to woo her entirely, win her heart and share her warmth. How could she lose perspective so easily?

Still… that didn’t take away from the thrill still lingering in her heart. She smiled at the leftover warmth – before catching herself, shaking her head with a scoff. Who knew if she would ever even see him again! She had to get a hold of herself, and come back to the reality she was left with: that she was alone on the path, walking away from the encounter, with no idea what that meant for what lay ahead.
