[Bless] Dreams Aren’t Dead After All

Dead Dreams wandered further into the dense area of the swamp. He’d been told to seek a blessing out here. Two Hearts had told him he’d recognize what she’d sent him for when he found it. That didn’t help him too much at this point, though. He stepped carefully, twisting through vines and stepping carefully through the swamp water. He shook his head in astonishment again, the news that Two Hearts was expecting their young still catching him off guard whenever he paused in his journey.

A caiman's head bobbed by, floating slowly to the buck's gentle steps. The ripples from their movement touched and pulsed together, then away.
The slitted eyes watched, weighing up whether the distracted buck would notice, as it crept closer.

Dreams stumbled against a rock (or perhaps it was a submerged bit of tree) in the water and knocked into a flowering vine that was full of pollen, releasing the stuff into the air. He snorted and shook his head somewhat violently, trying to dislodge the stuff from his nostrils. He stood there for a few moments, catching his breath back and snorting more goo from his nose. The stop also gave him a moment of stillness, a chance to listen to his surroundings, in which to hear the subtle swish of movement in the water. His eyes widened in a moment of fear of hidden predators before he quickly bolted forwards to a more stable piece of land out of the swamp water. Upon reaching it he looked back, searching for whatever had been stalking him in the water.

The caiman followed suit onto the patch where he'd scrambled, coming quick on its clawing feet.

Didn't think it'd go like this, did you? The voice floated with a rasp of a laugh. The caiman's mouth widened in tandem, a terrible toothy grin, skulking over for a bite.

Dreams shuddered, his eyes wide and rolling with panic. He tried backing up away from the caiman, but there was a dense tangle of vines and plantlife behind him and he couldn’t gain purchase through it. Those teeth were serious business, and he truely didn’t want to be bitten. “Oh please, oh please no. I really didn’t. I just want a blessing for my young and for Two Hearts.” He wasn’t sure sharing his purpose would help, but it obviously couldn’t hurt either. It certainly wouldn’t hurt as much as a bite from the caiman.

The mouth hung open in silence, then the scaled throat contracted and puffed with reptilian gurgling. The gutteral noises translated to a distinctly more kin-like laughter as the caiman shifted, instead, to a scalier mare, wheezing for breath.

"Caiman don't usually talk, but I'll give you a pass on that." She grinned at him, mouth almost as wide, but distinctly less hungry. "Bless your heart...and the second, Two. May your children be as innocent, and transparent as you are."

She flicked her tail as she turned, hooves moving to leave.

Dreams hung his head in a sheepish manner. He knew caiman didn’t usually talk. It was just, in the heat of things, his brain seemed to have forgotten that fact. He was gladdened for the blessing from this ferocious kin, though, and what it meant for the future of his and Two Hearts’ young. He closed his eyes and sent a silent thank you to her for what she’d granted.
