Name: J'cheyn (Jerocheyn)
Age: 42
Nameday: 3533.07.13
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Assistant Weyrlingmaster
Previous Rank/Craft: Wingrider
Physical Description: J'cheyn is a thin man who stands just shy of 6'0" and, quite frankly, is a bit underweight. His slight form isn't due to starvation or vanity reasons, merely the product of an over-active metabolism. This causes him to struggle to gain weight and causes him to almost always be hungry. If J'cheyn isn't at Drill or tending to Savaceth, he's often found in the Dining Hall treating himself to a meal between meals.

His eyes are a dark green, though some might call them hazel, as there are flecks of brown found within them. With thick lashes to frame them, a clean shaven face, and light brown skin, J'cheyn could be described more pretty than handsome. He has a sharp nose, sharp chin, and a warm smile. He's clean shaven and keeps his dark brown hair long, allowing it to fall past his shoulders when down. It's often tied back in a cord to keep out of his face, and is always clipped up and stashed beneath his helmet during Threadfall. His features are sharp and bony, just like the rest of him, and his hands and feet rather big. Unfortunately, this gives him a horribly awkward and boyish appearance, almost as if he's unfinished growing.

Personality: J'cheyn is a quiet, soft-spoken man--a strange trait for a Weyrlingmaster Assistant. That said, the weyrlings would be foolish to not take him seriously, or attempt to disregard him. While he might not have the charisma of other weyrlingmasters, he is no pushover. He is dedicated to the role of teaching, and caring for those assigned to him. Those who need a sympathetic ear might find one in J'cheyn; those who need a gentler, paternal side can find it easily in the man. Safety, care, and training will always come first.

Outside of weyrling training, many in the Weyr find J'cheyn to be a private person. Those who take the time to get to know him find in him a loyal friend with a mild temperament. He tends to defer to those in power, and has no desire in rising up the ranks any more than he already happens to be. He does not wish to be THE Weyrlingmaster, just a rider who might help the young as they transition and find their place among Western Weyr.

A hard worker, since Thread's return, he's thrown himself into his duties with a fervor that's almost unhealthy. All work and no play, J'cheyn seems to struggle to find hobbies that aren't duty or dedication to Savaceth. While there's a warmth to his soul, this greenrider inwardly struggles with worries. He carries the weight of the world on his thin shoulders, and has kept himself awake at night by thinking about everything that's wrong, or could be wrong, or might someday be wrong. He does his best to shield others from his woes, and certainly isn't so stricken by them that he can't do his job; in fact, it's his anxiousness that spurs him on to do a good job with the weyrlings! Life is rough and difficult and sometimes absolutely terrifying, but J'cheyn can at least ease his worries by trying to prepare the younger generation of what's to come; by ensuring that they are the best they can be, and by being the best Threadfighter he can be.

Positive Trait List Nurturing, Hardworking, Warm
Negative Trait List Workaholic, Aloof, Anxious
History: J'cheyn was born and raised on the plains of the Western Continent, in a small farming cothold called Shepherd's Rest, underneath Western Hold. He grew up living off the fat of the land, his father a Journeyman Farmcrafter, and his mother nothing more than a local Hold woman who fell in love. They took to helping work the land, wanting nothing more than a quiet life to raise their children. For the most part, this is what J'cheyn remembers about his youth--days running around barefoot in the tall grasses, helping with the runners and herdbeasts, and watching the clouds roll by.

Life was simple then. Quiet. Jerocheyn was the eldest of a brood of five, and the quietest. He always had a gentle heart and a gentle nature. He hardly had time to be the spoiled child as his baby brother was born less than a Turn after himself. His mother had three other children after that, each one a blessing and a joy. Though it meant having to provide or them, the cothold also saw them as the future. There were talks of arranged marriages, and each child was encouraged to study crafts or skills that would better the small Hold.

Jerocheyn wasn't all that great in the fields, being of slight frame. But he was tapped to become a runner between the cothold and some of the neighboring larger Holds. While there were runners, the cothold was small, and hardly had enough for every family; and often they were taken out to help round up the herdbeasts and caprines, and flits were few and far between. So, Jerocheyn became the resident messenger; when he wasn't delivering notes or packages, he was often listening to the harpers, or fussing over his siblings.

Life was quiet, life was good.

At Turn 15, his entire life was flipped upside down when a blue dragon came down to the fields. A dragon was a rare enough site, and for a good moment, Jerocheyn thought that it might be a Zanoma rider ready to cause trouble or try to drive them off their land. Thankfully, it was a weyr rider, out on Search. Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles, of all the young men and women in Shepherd's Rest, the rider approached him! He was Searched, and offered to be taken to the Weyr.

With his family's blessing, Jerocheyn was taken to Western Weyr. His quiet upbringing hadn't prepared him for life at the Weyr. Having grown up with a shy and quiet heart, the boy was completely overwhelmed and more than a little homesick. Before he had time to really acclimate, the Hatching occurred, and he found himself Impressed to the most beautiful dragon he'd ever seen--green Savaceth. Regardless of how he felt about Weyr life, J'cheyn now knew that he was right at home with his beloved and sociable little darling.

Life at the Weyr was different. Thankfully, he found a few good friends, and upon graduation, found that he didn't want to return to life at the cothold. Not only would Savaceth likely scare the herdbeasts, but she was far too sociable to stay in-the-middle-of-nowhere for long, and even J'cheyn began to find life at home...well.... a little boring. His parents were disappointed when he chose not to return, but with the promise of visits, and periodic transport for his family, wished him well with his new life.

J'cheyn took to helping in the creche with the youth of the Weyr. The littles reminded him of his siblings he'd left behind, and his gentle and patient nature meant he did not find working long hours with them a burden. It was here that he met his future weyrmate, a blue rider by the name of T'lis. The man was a good deal older, with flight children older than J'cheyn, but the two struck up an immediate friendship. J'cheyn's shy nature intrigued the older man, while T'lis was nothing short of an honorable gentleman. In time, they grew closer, and at Turn 24, they were weyrmated.

Though his family had mixed feelings about T'lis, so long as their son was happy, they were happy.

At Turn 35, J'cheyn and T'lis took in a little boy named Iskely. He had dark red hair like T'lis, and J'cheyn was immediately smitten. For the next four Turns life was seemingly perfect for the dark haired man. He'd been tapped as Weyrlingmaster Assistant at Turn 37, and loved every minute of it. He had the love his life, a growing little boy, and his beloved green. He visited his family when he could, his brothers and sisters still at the cothold, and had close bonds with T'lis' older children.

But then, one spring morning, Thread fell, and it changed everything. Shepherd's Rest was wiped completely off the map. Western Weyr had no firestone, and though High Reaches riders came to offer what they could, to help protect what Holds they could, there was no one to cover the smaller outposts. In an instant, his family, his nieces, his nephews, his brothers, sisters, in-laws, and parents were devoured by Thread.

To make matters worse, T'lis fell within the month, as the riders tried desperately to defend the continent and their people. During the madness, a sickness came through the Weyr that winter, likely brought in by some of the refugees seeking shelter or without any places to go... Where both J'cheyn and Iskely grew ill, it was J'cheyn who lived, and the child who slipped away.

In less than a Turn, J'cheyn found himself alone, like many on Pern.

The depression, guilt, and sadness all but overwhelmed him. If it wasn't for Savaceth, he wouldn't have made it... but he lives for his green, now, and has not entirely gotten over the loss Has kept himself detached since his family's death, though he's kind to his wingriders, and his weyrlings. He follows orders, and is grateful for what High Reaches Weyr gave them. He knows not to complain too loudly, or grieve in public--he wasn't the only one who lost everything. No. Instead, he keeps his pain to Savaceth and the walls of his empty weyr. All he has left are memories, which he holds dear...

But life must go on. So, J'cheyn takes it a day at a time, moment by moment. He looks to the future, and mourns for the past.

Other: He tends to mistrust Zanoma Camp riders simply due to his upbringing, where Zanoma Camp often bullied, harassed, and stole from his cothold. He also periodically falls in to a stuttering habit, particularly when anxious.

DRAGON
Name: Savaceth
Age: 27
Color: Green
Size: 19'
Physical Description: Savaceth is a dainty creature, and among some of the smaller greens of the Weyr. Her wings are a bit shorter than some, which allows her to make sharp turns and change her position swiftly upon wing.
Personality: Savaceth is a green who is as maternal and nurturing as her rider. Come, lean on her, and tell her all your woes. She loves to love, and loves even more to help. Want advice? She's happy to tell all... even to those who want no such thing! Savaceth has a bright and dazzling personality, and very positive in her outlook. She cares for her rider even as he cares for others, especially as of late. There is no night too dark or too long for this green, no struggle too great. This green is, essentially, a wellspring of hope and love.
Dragon Art or Proof of Obtainment: Savaceth
