Physical Description: At 5'11", Ansirien still has a little bit of growing to do yet; he'll likely end up over 6' tall. He's lanky, fine-boned and fairly delicate in build, though not scrawny. He has a sweet little baby-face, and it's quite likely he always will, with slightly soft features, gently arched eyebrows, a straight nose, and a mouth of average width that's usually smiling. He has his grandfather F'gon's dark eyes, bright and almond-shaped. His hair is a shoulder-length, thick shaggy mess, reddish-blond in color, with shaggy fringe that's constantly hanging in his eyes. Clothing-wise, Ansirien has zero fashion sense. He wears simple linen shirts and comfortable trousers, adding a jacket or cloak in cooler weather; he rarely wears shoes at all, preferring sandals over boots except in the winter. He usually leaves it to others to dress him up for Gathers and other events.
Personality:
At his heart, Ansirien is a sweet, good-natured kid. Happy, playful and energetic, he's your typical teenage weyrbrat in a lot of ways. He's very huggy and physically affectionate with his friends and family, whom he adores, especially his grandfather F'gon. Being a weyrbrat, Ansirien has been left pretty much to his own devices for a good portion of his childhood, despite how close he was to his mother and grandfather. As a result, he's idiosyncratic to an extreme and independent as anything; he would rather do something himself than impose upon anyone else. He's not deliberately rebellious, though some may think he is -- he's actually quite obedient, once you get his attention.
Despite his young age, Ansirien has that kind of naive wisdom that comes from having an unconditional faith in people (here naive = unsullied and non-cynical). Perhaps it's his relative lack of life experience, but everything he does, he does with an undying optimism and hope. He can often see clear to the heart of a matter and offer sometimes blunt, matter-of-fact opinions and solutions. His brand of crazy wisdom tends to shock and/or surprise those he's talking to, but it also tends to get them to thinking about their problems in different ways.
Conversely, Ansirien's relative lack of life experience have made him more than a bit naive (and here naive = ignorant and lacking experience). He can be gullible and easily fooled and taken advantage of, with an overactive imagination that has him coming up with all manner of wild over the top negative scenarios about relatively minor things. He has absolutely no inhibitions and no internal governor over his actions or his words -- far too impetuous for his own good, he just doesn't know when to shut it off and toe the line. He'll learn, of course, but at the moment it's a bit of a problem.
It's been something of an adjustment to be looked after so closely by F'gon since his mother died, and he sometimes finds it a little bit chafing, despite his love for the old man. Most of the time he doesn't mind the overprotectiveness of his grandfather, especially when Thread is falling. Ansirien has developed an anxiety about Thread as a result of his mother's death and is reluctant to throw in with the other weyrbrats and Candidates loading firestone sacks, lest something happens and someone he's close to dies again. He's forcing himself to face his fears out of necessity if he ever wants to ride a dragon.

History:
Ansirien grew up a mostly normal weyrbrat at Western Weyr, always a happy kid even as a pre-teen. He deeply loved his grandfather F'gon, and he wanted to be just like him when he grew up. He also adored his mother, who was the youngest of F'gon's four children. As is typical for a weyrbrat, he stood for his first clutch at age 14, and while he failed to Impress a dragon, he got his first real taste of what it was like, and he wanted it more than anything.
Then his mom was killed by Thread during that first Threadfall after no one believed it would ever return. He and his younger sibling were taken in by a grief-stricken F'gon. The death of his mother changed him; it made him fearful of things he could do nothing to stop, but especially Thread, to the point he would completely freak out whenever Thread fell. He also had nightmares about Thread and everyone he cares for dying (something he still suffers from).
Uncertain of what to do about his future, Ansirien skipped the last couple of clutches at Western, refusing to be considered for them. He has finally decided that the best way to honor his his mother's memory and his grandfather's legacy would be to become a dragonrider and deal with his fear by fighting his and Pern's ancient enemy.
