Name: Kitan
Age: 23
Nameday: 3551.03.22
Sex: M
Sexual Orientation: Demi
Craft: Weavercraft - Tailor
Rank: Journeyman
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Kitan could best be described as "wiry." He's not on the tall side, but lean- most often from working through meals on a regular basis and forgetting to eat- a bad habit. His eyes are a darker blue-green, while his hair is sandy blonde, and perpetually in a state of bed head. He has long fingers, which suits his Craft.

Personality: Quiet. Kitan is not much for holding conversations himself, unless it involves work. The hustle and bustle of an active Weyr makes for good background noise, and he enjoys hearing the life going on around him. He is absolutely devoted to his work, and at times can be a bit of a perfectionist- on occasion, he may even stop and pull out all of the stitching he'd just spent the last few hours on to start over because he saw something wasn't just right. It happens more often than he'd like, and though he does not outright get angry, it's more than a little obvious that he's not pleased. Often he will go through a second, third, and up to fourth draft before the "problem" is fixed. He, however, does not hold someone else's work to the same standards he keeps himself to. Though he can at times point out something that happens to be glaringly obviously "not right." Most often if it pertains to an order.

Once he gets started on a project, it is nearly impossible to grab his attention without a physical touch or persistence. He tries to not zone out so strongly, but on a slow day it's inevitable, and it can take a couple tries to grab his attention away from the work. On the plus side, when he gets focused the project in his hands is finished faster than he'd alloted for. Maybe not by a drastic amount of time, but every little bit of extra speed helps. A sacrifice for this speed, and his focus, is in fact the habit of just skipping out on meals. He could very easily skip one meal for every day he's working on a single order- if not more, unless otherwise prompted to eat by outside forces. Currently, though he knows it is a poor habit, he's not put much effort into breaking it. The only instance where he does not allow himself to fall into that habit is when he has an important order. Then, he acknowledges that taking a break to eat will allow him more energy to continue working, even if he does sacrifice time to do so. He has a strong drive to not disappoint when it comes to completing those orders- not that he would accept disappointment on a lesser project. He would much prefer to have it done right the first time, and not need a revision- which would then mean the order takes even less time to be completed, and time is not something the Weyr has sometimes. Not with Thread a very real threat again. And he knows that his work is not make or break, the longer he keeps someone waiting, the less time they have free to do whatever it is they need to do besides wait for him to be finished.

With those he has bonded with, he's open, friendly, completely relaxed. For a work relation he is first and foremost polite, but reserved on every topic not related to the task at hand. He's more likely to offer one-word responses to questions, and only really relax once left on his own again. He's listening, but his verbal responses are few. This is partly because he feels like becoming too personal with a client is not professional, or even wanted by most coming to place or pick up an order. He sees his job as the priority and, as he's not an entertainer- his customers therefore don't really want him to be pulled into the day-to-day news or random conversation topics. It's most likely just to fill the air with some sort of conversation, perhaps, he thinks, they bring up such topics to jog their memory of some detail they wanted added, or fixed, in an order or mending job.The daily gossip is only given polite nods, but he usually doesn't remember who said what or what so-and-so got lectured at for, in particular.

Positive Trait List Good Listener. Reliable. Hard working.
Negative Trait List Perfectionist. Introverted. Focused.

History: Kitan's parents met when they were in their late teens. Me'lor, rider of Green Vith, had come in from a flight exercise and nearly bowled his mother, Katryn, on his path to the Kitchens in Rivercrest Hold- intent on coaxing a bit of food out of someone. And that, as they say, was that. The pair had- in Kitan's personal opinion- the mushiest romance possible, dating for two turns before deciding to formalize their relationship. Kitan came about three years afterward.

While the idea of riding dragons was appealing to him as a kid, understandably so- his mother's weaving held his attention stronger than anything else. The way she could pull so many different colors and patterns together in throws, or shawls, or a tapestry was spellbinding to the boy. And so, after giving it a hard debate, or, as hard as a five year old could, he decided that Weavercraft was for him instead of the little daydream of being a hero on a dragon's back. His mother had been thrilled with the idea, and he was apprenticed to their Hold's Crafters- namely a retired Weaver who decided that his long and narrow fingers were made for the craft. With the funds raised, and his parents' blessing, he traveled with his teacher's aide to Southern Boll, to officially apprentice under the Weavercraft Hall's teaching. He strove to prove that his 'master's' faith in him wasn't wasted, and threw himself into the work. And he found a strong love for Tailoring, especially.

While his mother's Weaving had fascinated him, there was just something amazing about using his hands to mend and rebuild torn tunics, or to create a new piece of clothing from bolts of cloth. He was a diligent student, and discovered a desire for perfection early on- a habit that was unfortunately difficult to break entirely. When he passed into Journeyman, he thought about returning home to his mother, but an open position in Western Weyr for tailors was something he just could not pass up. And upon reaching the Weyr, he found that the sort of liveliness he'd missed from home was abundant here. It wasn't the same- and certainly not quite as.. party-fueled, but he decided he liked that. It was feeling a bit like home already, and there was no lack of work to be found in such a busy, bustling place.

Other: Piecing my little tailor together from his previous incarnations in shops ♥

Hello, and welcome again to EoP!

As this looks like it might be your first time submitting a character here, just an FYI that we do review with some fairly specific criteria, and will work with you to get your characters approved as soon as we can. The most common things we run into are describing personality traits with enough detail, especially the negative ones. I always try to give suggestions to help get the brain juices flowing!

To begin with, let's delve right into his traits. I'm having some difficulty finding description of how Kitan is actually a good listener, it seems to be mostly about how he does not like to have conversations and doesn't talk much. Please add a little bit about how he exercises this positive trait. Also, he is clearly hard-working, but please add something that more directly references how he is reliable. Does he get his regular orders done timely and to the buyer's specifications? Can the Weyr rely on him for emergency orders?

How does his perfectionism negatively effect his life or relationships? For example, does he get angry or frustrated when things aren't working out right? Does he nag other people when they're not behaving or working up to his standards? Same with his introversion. Does he ever get lonely? Do his relationships suffer by his inadvertantly cutting himself off from people who care about him and want to spend time with him? Does he ever have some form of meltdown if there's been too much social activity?

For the negative trait "spaced out," I would suggest using a stronger word like "focused" instead. "Spaced out" implies that he's blankly staring off into the distance or lost in a daydream, not ultra-focused on his work like you indicated!

If you have any interest in Kitan ever Impressing a dragon, you could also submit him as an official candidate. As he was born at Western Weyr, he has a right to stand at all Western clutches. Alternatively, you could submit him as a "standidate," someone who is not officially a candidate but might have a surprise Impression if they attend a hatch. Either option would work at Western Weyr until he is age 30.

I have approved Kitan however please note for the future that a position like the one you described would be filled between the Crafthall and the Weyr, not directly as you mentioned.
