Physical Description: Despite being a small child, puberty did Xahteis a favor. He rests comfortably at 6'1", or perhaps a hair under, with a lanky yet awkward build. Xahteis has a bit of a slouch, and walks as though he's trying to avoid notice. He's not especially strong, but is surprisingly quick, given his size. He has soft brown skin and dark brown hair, worn long and pulled back. He has a bit of a feminine look to him, but doesn't seem to mind.
Personality: Xahteis manages to keep his head in the clouds, but stays grounded in reality. He knows what needs to be done and he does it. He's practical-minded and acts quickly and accurately. Despite this...that never stops him from taking time out of his day to dream about more. What if things were different? His job is plenty practical and important, but it's not very glamorous. He's satisfied with it, but he sometimes imagines what it would be like to be a dragonrider, to live with his family, to get married, and so on. He believes he picked a different path, however, and accepts that.
Xahteis is not one to waste time. Efficient AND accurate, he runs on a nearly-flawless internal clock. He is usually exactly on time to everything, factoring in travel time, getting ready, and so on. Every moment is planned for, and he hates any kind of waste--especially related to time! He's never idle, even if he looks it. No, sometimes you need to spend time thinking. It's very purposeful reflection, when he does it. He even times himself, allowing him only a certain amount of time with which to reflect (daydream). Time management is one of his best skills, followed by how hard he works. He wants perfection, to be the best at anything he sets in front of himself. If it's not perfect, it's not good enough for him. However, a flawed creation may be good enough for others. While he holds himself to high standards and always seeks to improve, he recognizes that others may appreciate his weaving work, and that it may be good enough for his teachers.
Naturally, Xahteis is a studious sort. He mostly keeps to himself, and is generally quiet, but he's always the first to raise his hand in any kind of class. Equal parts know-it-all, nerd, and student, he loves to learn new skills and information. He can be a bit of a homebody, and would rather get his hands on something to read, or work on his weaving, than go out with people. Of course, he's intelligent, but he's also a lifelong learner. He soaks up information with a passion. Although he is a weaver by trade, he enjoys stories, but alas, the world has more need for clothing than for stories.
This lad can take quite a lot of pressure before he breaks. Most things slide off his back, be they insults or criticism. He rarely takes them to heart--even when he should. That said, he has somewhat low self-esteem. It's not affected by others, or their perceptions of him--it's because he feels lonely and inferior to his siblings and parents, who he sees as the greatest people in the world. He remains strong despite what people say, but the people he cares about most, no matter how kind they may be...his strong admiration for them means that he can never quite be as amazing as them, or good enough to be close to them.
Xahteis just wants to help. He is dutiful, believing in completing tasks for the greater good. He does as he is told by authority, and is generally responsible, reliable, and dependable.
He cares deeply for his loved ones, and is extremely loyal. He will do anything for those he cares for, and although he may be annoying, teasing, and quite the nag, he is quick to express love for others. He is sweet to his loved ones, when not teasing them, and will protect them if he can. He's definitely the mom-friend sort. Xahteis often drives people away by being sharding annoying--but for some reason, his family doesn't seem to (especially) mind him, nor does the weaver apprentice he has a crush on. (Well, she does, but...in her own way, she doesn't? Maybe?)
If he doesn't know you well, however, Xahteis comes off as standoffish and rude. He is not above ignoring someone, or telling them he's too busy to interact with them. He's a bit prickly, mostly to protect himself, but a bit of perseverance yields great results; it doesn't take long to get him to fawn over you, to make him adore you. Just a little kindness, and he's wrapped around your finger.

History: Born in Western Weyr, Xahteis was raised in the creche. His dragonrider parents were busy but always made time for him. He was the youngest of three, with his older siblings being 8 to 10 turns older. As a result, he was always the baby of the family, and was protected by his siblings. He always knew he could rely on them. His mother was a warrior at heart, always fighting for her children, and his father was kind and gentle.
He loved his family, sure, but he often found them a bit overbearing. Xahteis was young when Ilauria was a candidate, so early events in the family were lost to him. Ilauria was teased for her height as a candidate, but was obsessed with the idea of candidacy. Zarsteyr often got it in his head to defend his sister, and even got beat up one time. Xahteis would only hear about this in stories.
While Ilauria was so focused on candidacy that she never thought of alternate paths, Zarsteyr chose a craft before candidacy, itching to do something, and possibly even have a backup. Teis, as he was known as, never knew candidacy, despite both his siblings eagerly standing. Instead, he took the path of the crafter, throwing himself fully into weaving. He assumed he would never Impress--dragons didn't seem to talk to him much, not like his siblings, and he felt like he'd be in their shadows forever. At 12, the apprentice was sent to the weaver crafthall, due to his skill. He has been there for 6 turns, and has been an apprentice for about 7 or 8.
When thread began to fall, Xahteis felt a desire to protect awaken within him, an odd feeling he'd never expressed or experienced before. Still, it was mild, so he shrugged it off. He'd given up on dragonriding ages ago. He wanted to help, sure. He wanted to do his duty, of course. But keeping clothing on people's backs was more important that him standing for 10 turns, only to restart his craft after inevitably aging out, right? Teis, after all, felt ignored and overlooked by dragons. Surely, none would pick him. In reality, he was just a shy, and somewhat rude individual--dragons and humans alike tended to avoid or ignore him.
Xahteis's desire to fly thread, his occasional wistful daydreams about dragonriding, were motivated by his father's death in threadfall. It caused him to throw himself into his work, distracting himself, reminding himself he'd given up on it before. Both his mother, and his mother's green, took the loss of their respective mates hard. They were undertrained and depressed, and a small mistake led to their death only a few falls later. Xahteis was devastated, but still, he didn't return home. He was still 18 when he lost both of his parents.
