6'8” tall and seemingly over thin - like a a strong breeze might blow her away – she still stands tall and proud, unbent and unbowed by the hardships that she had endured. Her hair is thick, long and white, remaining her crowning glory, and she takes great pride in keeping it shiny, soft and up in elaborate up dos that complement her striking features. Her eyes are a clear, bright intelligent violet and dance with unvoiced laughter. Surrounded by a generous amount of laughter lines. Her skin is weathered and darkened by time and a harsh life lived predominantly out of doors.
Personality:
If anyone could be described as being an island, Lyss would be that one. She is capable, dependable, self-contained and self-sufficient, practical. She doesn't need others - aside from Asterith - but she knows one can't survive alone. She won't ask anyone else to do other tasks if she can't do them herself. She works harder than she expects anyone else to, and though she isn't or wasn't the leader type, she does tend to show others what to do by her example. She isn't one to shy from the truth, nor will she sugar-coat or filter anything for the comfort of others.
While she's not the most demonstrative, it doesn't mean she doesn't feel. She does feel things, but to connect too deeply, to allow herself the chance to truly feel would be to open herself up to the messy entanglements of bonds that could be broken or betrayed. And she never wanted to make herself vulnerable enough to allow that to happen. So she built a wall to hide behind, so no one could see beyond the superficial. In spite of everything she still sees more good than bad in life.

Born in a small outlying hold to a family of common farmcrafters, it was the orchard labor she remembered the most. It was among the busiest time of the year for her family, and it was when they all worked together in the fields. Those were happy times...
She had seven siblings- four older, three younger. Life was hard, but they were content with their lot. They had each other and they had enough to survive. Her oldest sibling died in an accident out in the orchard when she was five, a younger sibling got sick and passed. So then there were six.
The family was poor, but they didn't starve, they had a roof over their heads, and they had eachother. All she knew was the life her family had, and she had never yearned for anything else. Then one day when she was about fifteen turns old, she was Searched by a passing brown rider from Western Weyr. She didn't Impress the first time she Stood... nor the second, or the third. It wasn't until she was 21 Turns old that her gold finally found her.
Neither she nor Asterith ever wanted to be anything special or to stand out, but they always did their best in their assigned duties and were content to not be more than normal. Neither were eager to settle down with a single mate, though they did enjoy the company of many lovers of all colors, races, genders etc.
Asterith rose regularly and clutched regularly, and many times, Lyss ended up with Flight lust children whom she passed off to the creche or to families who may have wanted offspring of their own but for whatever reason could not. She held no interest in being a mother, in actually raising the children, but she did do her best to make sure any children were well loved and cared for.
After she left her family, she didn't do much to keep in touch, just enough to know that they were all alive and well. When Thread returned, she lost two more siblings. A fact she was saddened by, but distantly. She turned her attentions to the weyr and her duties. Working hard to see that her home and family (the weyr's riders) were safe.

~ Had never been to any beach before she was Searched and brought to Western Weyr. But the second she first was at one, she fell in love with the feel of the sand under her feet, the sound and sight of the water. Enough so that she was sure to claim a beach side weyr when she Impressed Asterith, and they were allowed the weyr of their own.

The maximum size a gold can be, Asterith is a very large girl, though more in terms of length and wingspan then muscle mass. A lean, lithe girl, she is elegantly proportioned. With a long tail, long head knobs, and large eyes with very prominent ridges that she adores having scratched.
Personality:
Where her rider is distant, and nearly an island unto herself, this gold is nearly the exact opposite. She is a social butterfly who needs the love and adoration of many. And where Hers is more distant, she is a very tactile and affectionate, prone to cuddling with anyone and everyone who would allow it. Sometimes pushing the boundaries with those who might not be as open to cuddling, but not truly forcing herself where she truly is not wanted.
Strong dependable, she has always been a steady rock, one who could be counted on to be where she was needed, doing what needs to be done without complaint.
