Physical Description: Josen is a fine mix of his parents - he is tall for a man on Pern and while not overly muscled, he is still strong bodied. He short, dark, curly hair that is shaved down on the sides into a sort of fauxhawk, medium tan skin, and dark eyes. There is a certain softness to his features that make him look younger than he actually is.
Personality: Josen is momma’s boy - you got a problem with that? There is an obvious sensitivity to Josen, who is not afraid to cry whenever he feels the time is right for it, and is definitely not afraid of having feelings. Nothing is packed up and hidden away inside of his heart, he is 100% told and true! However, just as obviously as he has a sensitive heart, he also has a strong mind and a tough fist - he’s not going to be sorry for decking someone who deserved it, and he definitely doesn’t flinch under any pressure. He’s the kind of boy who will happily hold a wound oozing blood shut while he waits his turn to be seen without even a bit of worry. This isn't to say he can't be taken by surprise, though.
He's not above getting into fights for the right reason and he's absolutely not afraid of getting hurt in those fights. Josen has a certain disregard for his own body and wellbeing - his flesh is merely flesh, after all.
Almost in contrast to his honest, sensitive heart, Josen can be mischievous. He is happy to use the resources he has at hand to lean situations to way he wants - more out of good fun than anything malicious, but if he happens to twist a game of cards to end up with a few more marks…..he can't complain! Not everybody is going to enjoy his antics, however, and sometimes they can end worse than intended.
There is also a vindictive streak in Josen. When someone wrongs others Josen expects them to pay for it - more than they dished out. He is unfair in dishing out the dues, if he gets to, though once they've paid their pound of flesh he seems to calm down greatly. He never forgets, though.

History: Josen first learned of his father when his grandson, Josen's nephew, found him on Search.
Before that time, he had lived quite happily with his mother, training dutifully under her to become a dragon healer at the Healer Hall. While he had known his father had been out of the picture for reasons private to his mother, it was only at being Searched he discovered that he was the product of an affair…..with an older man who was still very much married. In his old age he'd let slip the existence of his second child and his wife had appealed to their dragonriding grandson to look into it.
That his dragon would find him a suitable candidate was unexpected. While initially hesitant to go, his mother would convince him it would be a good opportunity to get to a Weyr so soon after walking the tables to become a Journeyman. Josen agreed and went, hoping to keep his head somewhat down on the family front.
Other: While Josen can cite one near death illness as a child, he is hearty and resilient and rarely gets sick.
Only Josen's nephew is a rider, the rest of his father's side of the family are not.
