The crisp winter air blew in Yu's face, pushing the bangs away from his forehead and making him close his eyes until it past. He was still standing in his doorway, on two legs as he was pulling a backpack onto his shoulders, a fishing pole poking over one of his shoulders. His meat was running a bit low and since he needed all his other stored goods to get him through winter and not as trade currency, he felt a trip out to the nearby lake would be a good idea for the day. Pack a lunch, take a few of his books, and just make a day of it out on the ice.
Once he was all set, he made the trek out of his backyard and into the woods nearby. Along the way, he picked up the stray stick or chunk of bark to use back home for his fire, ever the resourceful Kitsu. Maybe it was coming up on the time he should start looking at himself and figuring out what skills he could offer to make life a bit easier. He was fine with all this scavenging and living off the land. But ever since he'd had company over that one time, he was even more self-aware of how bare his house looked. It had no personality, it's only use was to satisfy his needs. It should bare more of his personality, more memories of his life. Problem was, he had little memories here that he wanted to forever remember with a place on his shelves.
As he came closer to where he knew the pond to be, he suddenly heard voices. Female voices, it sounded like, in discussion with each other. Interesting. He had never seen nor heard anyone near the pond before. He hoped they wouldn't mind company. Maybe he should find a new pond. Perhaps they were here to enjoy it and wouldn't appreciate him drilling a hole in the middle of it.
But than his ears caught the sound of frustrated grunting and mumbling, with a few curses. Curious, he continued closer, in time to see a pretty Kitsu in a blue dress struggling with a bench. Straight away, he placed his backpack on the ground and rushed over on four legs, going to the opposite side of the bench to lift it much easier than she had been doing on her own.
"I can help. Where did you want this?"
"Just over there," the female answered, pointing with her nose to the opposite side of the pond. Backing up along the bank, the two of them moved in sync to get the bench to the desired spot, neither saying a word during the short trip.

Ella had been merely surprised when the strange Kitsu had seemed to just come out of nowhere out of the woods. Unlike her sister, she didn't see threats at every corner. She wasn't paranoid of everyone who spoke to her. Plus, it wasn't like they were that far from the nearby town, where this male probably lived. She had already noted, as he'd rushed up to help her, that he was leaving behind a backpack with an obvious fishing pole poking out from under the flap. Considering this was a pond, it was quite simple to her that he was just here to have a spot of fishing and found they had taken it over.
The two of them dropped the bench halfway to its destination. Ella would have kept on going, regardless of what Aurene said, had the other end not simply stopped. She didn't answer straight away, just stared for a bit at the cute Kitsu on the other side from her. Nothing about him seemed scary. Quite the contrary, he looked like quite the gentlemen, all snug in his winter clothes with not a single wrinkle out of place.
"You are being rude, Aurene," Ella responded, turning her very blue eyes on her sister. "We could very well be up to no good, too, for all he knows."
During the exchange between the two, Yu was leaning over the bench, his front two paws placed side by side on it as his head went back and forth between the speakers. Oh. His lack of social experience made him mess up, again.
"I am Yu Narukami. I come here to fish."

All three of Ella's tails were brushing the snow behind her, moving from side to side in a graceful synchronized movement. Her expression equally did not change, remaining fairly neutral to the situation. Until the question broke the silence and she narrowed her eyes, her tails ceasing in their movement. Did Aurene really just say that out loud where the male could easily hear. That was no less rude than the other things she'd said. How embarrassing for him to be spoken about like that when he was right there, probably feeling too awkward to say much.
But behind Yu's stoic expression was not what Ella would expect. He was not feeling awkward over the question, more feeling guilty at being the cause for all this fuss. He just couldn't get a handle on how one socialized.
"He even has fishing gear," Ella countered, ignoring the question and pointing with a paw to the backpack in the direction he had come from.
Oh, yes. His gear. On the inside, Yu perked up a bit more, though his facial expression didn't alter whatsoever. "I can empty it out if you need proof. I always fish here."
Which seemed so obvious to Ella, just looking at the bag. But she kept these thoughts to herself, knowing Aurene would just scold her, again. As if she was the youngest of the litter and not actually the oldest. No respect for elders, none of her siblings had. Instead, she beamed a smile at Yu when her sister called her name, her tails picking up their movement from before. So what if she appreciated a handsome Kitsu's face? Wasn't like she was making a fool of herself and hanging all over him, shamelessly flirting constantly. She was just smiling and looking. No harm in that.
