Actually I think all we've prooven, is that there is no fully agree'd history of emo, there are too many anomalies, to actually define what it is, though its possibly a combination of both our versions.

Emo originated from punk in the 80's from Rites of Spring (or something like that)

My parents don't know wtf emo/punk/goth/scene are, so I just don't even try to explain to them. They keep asking why I'm goth, and I just say "I don't know, mom" even though I'm not goth...I'm emo...

And with your mom, just look up "emocore" in a online dictionary thing, or get the book "punk rock, teenagers, and emo:nothing feels right."

My mum doesnt know what it is let alone that im one...i think she ignores it. i tryed to explain it to her but she just keeps saying 'emos are depressed people that listen to funny hip-rock music' urgh its so irritating!

i know how you feel......my mom asked me to define the word emo and i had a hard time explaining it to her that the word emo came from the genre emotive hardcore heart

mom: but they're so DARK. I don't want you to be some gothic creep.
me: THEY AREN'T GOTH.
mom: oh well, they're gothic enough for me *ditzy giggle*

later in the day....

*we drive by some goth metal-head looking people*
mom: ew, look at those people. they just want attention.
me: um no, their expressing themselves.
mom: hey look rachel, they're wearing your vans!
me: WTF. NO MOM, THEY'RE WEARING BOOOTS.
mom: oh, but they look like they'd wear your vans.
me: k, mom. those people would SCORN my vans.
mom: really?
me. YES.
after that she sort of left me alone. ^^
