!DING!
The elevator stopped and the doors opened. Zahli stepped out into a large hall, with rooms lining either side. "707... 706..." she searched for her door, shrugging her backpack to a more comfortable position on her shoulder. "705... 704..." she felt Fae wriggle around among her braids, and whispered, "Settle petal, we're nearly there and you can flit about in our new room... as soon as I find it! 703... 702... aha! Here it is! 701! Well... I hope it's just as I requested it be to Jousha!"
As she opened the door she covered her eyes, just to surprise herself. Taking two steps into the room, she heard Fae's little squeal, and couldn't resist taking her first look at her new home.
The room was large, but comfortable looking, with pale blue walls, thick carpet of the same colour, a small bathroom to the left of the door, and kitchennette to the right. At the far end of the main room the wall was nothing but glass, with a view over the cliffs and out across the ocean.
The intricate, ornate looking bedhead was against the right wall, so that if she lay in it, and rolled onto her right side, it was as though she were going to fall over the cliff and into the ocean below. Upon the bed was a stuffed animal, a purple dragon, sitting among the plumped up pillows.
The decor of the room was entirely ocean tones, blues, sands, driftwood browns, a hint of seaweed green here or there, and a flash or two of turquoise. The large couch was sand coloured, cotton, and incredibly comfortable.
There was a book shelf on the same wall as the bed, although closer to the door, left empty, as Azahlia had requested, so that it may be filled with books that she'd read over the coming weeks and months, even years, not simply books to fill the space.
The most intriguing feature of the room, other than the view from the glass wall, was a fountain in one corner. It was carved ornately with seahorses, seaweed and shells, and trickled almost silently.
Azahlia's mouth hung open, as she was overwhelmed by how beautiful the room was, and how true to the description she'd given Jousha. Little tiny Fae could hold back no longer, and flitted out from Zahlia's thick hair, around the room excitedly, finally landing contentedly on a platform above the fountain. The platform had a nest of woven leaves and horse hair closest to the wall, and a bowl of water.
"Funny," Zahli said quietly to herself, "it's as though that platform were built just for Fae, although I don't remember mentioning her prescence to Jousha..."
Before she could ponder this thought for too long, she spied a glass on the kitchen bench top, to her right. It held a pink frothy substance, and had a strawberry on top. A note lay next to it. Azahlia picked it up and read, "I hope you settle into your new room, feel comfortable, safe, and at home. May your days here be filled with new discoveries, new life lessons, new friends and experiences, and above all else, much happiness. Bless you, young Azahlia. Signed, Nuu."
Azahlia's heart swelled at the kindness from a being she'd never met, and her hopes rose at the idea of meeting other such kind souls in this new world.
"This place is gonna be a whole lotta fun!" she smiled, and with that, picked up her strawberry drink, and sipped at it.
