I can feel the emo from here... which is good, art is most the time about trying to convey a message or feeling and you sure did that. I would keep your style. You'd be amazed at how often the simplest pictures work so much better than the overdone ones...

Only comment is that the hair on the left side of the picture looks really flat for a non-profile shot. Maybe trying something the bridge between the bangs and the rest of the hair...

Ever try drawing upside down on the paper, it sometimes helps ppl focus on the shapes of the project and not the image itself. It also helps when it seems that things tend to lean to one side.

Its cute, I like your style heart . The only thing I could think to say for improvement is that the sides of the face don't have an outline, so it kind of blends into the background, which is a big contrast to the large outline of the hair and body.
