Yeah, it was from that story I was writing...
This particular paragraph was inspired by my trip to the beach with Kirby-chan!
For future reference, if you're reading this poll, ocean+running shoes=bad idea.

Well, it's sure sitting here. Just a couple bits on my hard drive, and here it is for your viewing enjoyment (I hope). No, it's not a bill, it's a paragraph from the lamest piece of writing I've ever done, but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

PS- Anyone else here remember School House Rock? Gee, where do all those memories go?

He was still clearing the remains of the small fire they had used to prepare their supper when she suddenly rose, running full tilt toward the vast expanse of the Gray Sea. She jumped into the surf, waving her arms madly. He saw her fevered happiness, the intense look of concentration splayed over her beautifully innocent features. It reminded him painfully of her younger self, her lost innocence, the shattered fragments of wholeness and happiness left behind by a burden no one on the earth should have been asked to bear. The adventure of a lifetime had been theirs—all the horror, the excitement, the pain and fear. Other moments too formed a brilliant collage of emotion, the sparks of attraction, fleeting moments of elation, the weary relief of finding oneself safe for another moment at least.
Riven jerked his head back from his reverie at the sound of her voice.
“Do you think the stars could see me?” she asked him solemnly. “Will they wave back?”
He smiled painfully. Oh, Vox. Her sheer strength amazed him. That anyone could be so broken and yet seem so normal, as though she were just another someone, someone blessed with the comfort of anonymity, sameness, the gift of a warm, safe bed to sleep in at night. He would pretend, for one more night at least, that everything would be all right, that they would manage to get through this, that somehow they could piece together the crushed fragments of their lives and go home.
“Yes, Vox.” He said gently, leading her back to the small encampment only a few paces from the choppy shore. Nakiri’s voice echoed in his head with every step. Riven, every moment leads you closer to your destiny…
They did not have much time left.

The next morning, Vox awoke with a heavy heart. The small rock overhang she had used for shelter was dripping, raindrops falling from miniature crevasses in the old stone. They would have to leave today, she knew. It would be another few days of walking before they could safely set up camp again, and every day brought them closer, but to what? Riven avoided her eyes. Their escort from the Queen certainly wasn’t going to let spill anything useful, considering that they hadn’t yet said a word to the duo. She knew their destination: The Castle Fort twenty leagues west of the Royal City. But why? What were they to do there? Why wouldn’t anyone tell her? She stood and stretched. It was going to be a long day.

The captain of the guard sent to escort the two traveling to the Royal Outpost had been given strict orders to speak little to the centaur, and not at all to the girl. They were trained men, able to follow their orders. They wouldn’t question Queen Armada’s decision. It didn’t mean they couldn’t look. So this was their nation’s chosen hero? They scoffed. She was just a little slip of a thing.
“Nineteen, I’d say.” Chimed in the captain. “And I’d wager she doesn’t even come to my shoulder!”
Still, she was a pretty girl. They had imagined some huge muscle-bound idiot with a sword and a silver shield riding in on a huge steed to come and stomp down all opposition. She was small and slender. Her short leather tunic was belted at the waist. Definitely not what they had been expecting. Her only weapon was a small quiver of arrows. It was a beautiful quiver, made of ivory, clearly a royal thing… but it certainly wasn’t very awe-inspiring. And this was the legendary hero, the one person in Anyarra with the power to save their country!

Saunders, the captain of the escort sent with the little party, was a bit affronted. He was a large, quiet man, the thick-chested, long-legged terror to rowdy drunks and petty thieves all over the royal city. He could tell an imposing figure when he saw one. This girl definitely wasn’t an imposing figure. Still, he would follow his orders. He had a wife and kids back home. Six mouths to feed that told him he needed this job, and if all went well, why then maybe he’d get a promotion! Then he wouldn’t be chasing Armada’s latest pet up and down the countryside. Oh, he’d done this often enough. Enough so that even the queen herself was tired of the charade. A “hero” would always step up, one claiming to possess the “legendary power bestowed by the gods” who always turned tail at the first sign that anything needed saving! Well, things certainly did need saving, and the people couldn’t wait much longer for a hero to show up. The queen herself had decided upon a test to root out the bad ones. She’d simply send any “hero” that showed up on a mission… one that led them to the front lines of battle! It was a shame that her scheme should use these two as guinea pigs. They really did seem sincere, and the girl really was pretty. Probably they really thought they had the power to save their country and blah blah blah. He’d seen it all before. Still, it was a pity. If she survived, she might make someone a good wife someday.

And if not… Well, that was a fine bow she carried, and after all, he did have those six kids.

She's both. She was Amara, but I got tired of the squiggly red lines under her name, so it's temporarily changed. xp I luff her so. She's kinda a butthead.

Meh, I dunno, I kinda like her this way. With the new name, she kind of took on a more aggresive persona. It works for her.
