Aside from that little chart, I wanted to add my two cents' worth, and I just now thought of a good way to put this.

In the six thousand or so years of recorded history humanity has, it constitutes less than one percent of total human history, recorded or otherwise. It's freaky to think about, I know. And remember that when neanderthal man was coming up with explanations for the universe, he had every reason to think that the sun revolved around the earth, and he had every reason to think that the earth itself was flat. If you didn't know d**k about science, you'd believe it too. So keep in mind that we've had several million years of belief in these archaic notions as opposed to less than a thousand years of science proving those concepts wrong.
