Tolkein? Why would he lie? Saying Tom isn't Eru would just Tom that much more of a mystery.

Well, he wants us to wonder about Tom endlessly, right? Then, if you had a theory that was relatively close to the truth (that Tolkien supposedly didn't want us to know), wouldn't he tell you you were wrong?

This might sound like an incredibly stupid question but how do you pronoucne bombadil?
Is it bom-bad-il or bom-ba-dil? Or some other way.
It bugs me not knowing how to pronounce it, every time I'm reading and it comes up I never know how to say it.

I think I read some where that he is a God or part God but i'm not sure there is any thruth in that.

I believe It is pronounced "bom-ba-dil".
As for what he is, nobody knows. He is mostly his own person.

@The_Ginatron, read through some of this thread. We have discussed some of the finer points of Tom Bombadil ....mostly just to come to the conclusion that he is indeed a mystery...and thats the way he should be left.

I once read a theory that bombadil was the witch king. It actually had you convinced, too...

Nobody's going to figure out who he actually is, but I like trying, though I'm far from being a Tolkien scholar... I think this quote is important.
