The Round Table (Discussion and Debates)

The Extended Discussion of the Occult Research Society! In short, this is the place to debate and discuss issues or ideas within occulture, from the growth of Neopaganism to the failings of Christianity, from proof of the existence of magick to who the Lamed Vavniks may be and why, from what people think of the Necronomicon to experiences people have had with the occult.
This subforum is rather a lot like the Essays subforum, but the difference here is not with the presentation of one idea, but the presentation of several ideas and the discussion that goes between them. Read through the guidelines before embarking on starting up a discussion or contributing to one - this is not a board for debasing people's beliefs, but trying to further one's own knowledge.

Guidelines

  • Be polite. It's as simple as that. We're a guild dedicated to furthering knowledge, not furthering ego - what you think of someone who posts ideas is (mostly) irrelevant. Personal insults, flaming, trolling or the like has no place here.

  • Debate the issue, not the person behind it. Try not to commit the fallacy of Ad Hominem (or any other fallacy, for that matter), as it does nothing but veer from the subject at hand - you're here to discuss the issue, not the personal life of the person who put it forward. If you want to make a seperate thread about how silly the person is, by all means do so, but the very second it turns into a cussfest is the very second the poster gets chucked.

  • Heated discussion the point of flaming will be locked by moderators until everyone involved calms down. Hot tempers ruin any potential for understanding; instead, it becomes a race to show who's the most right. If the thread veers too far in the direction of a flamewar, it'll be locked.

  • Be clear, concise, and write well. Grammar, spelling and punctuation are good, and make people slightly more inclined to listen to what you have to say. If you can't take the time to type correctly, what chance have you of being able to have the cognition to debate well?
