Alright peeps we're in MATURE DISCUSSION. I'm not going to sugar coat it, there is no Santa, no Easter Bunny, Superman, Master Chief, Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Why do we intend to lie to our younger, more guillible generation? Why do we do it? Is it so hard to just tell them straight out? It doesn't necissarily make a difference. They're gonna find out later in life and it doesn't make a difference! They're still going to get that G.I. Joe for X-mas, that Easter Basket for Easter, and a bunch of fat from Ronald Mcdonald... Thouhgts?

Thouhgts? It's partly because of tradition. Every generation has this silly concept of doing unto others as others have done to you. And, in a way, it's to keep kids from growing up too fast. In a way, it's a really sad concept, and seems somewhat anti-progessive, but it is deemable as almost key to furthering the species. If a kid stays a kid and believes that kind of thing, then they aren't adults or in the adult mindset (like teens are). Thusly, chances that they'll do "adult" things (smoking, sex, and the like) are vastly slimmed. I assume most of us can recognize the importance of small children not being coked up or getting STDs? Just my two cents.

it doesnt hurt to have children of a small age have fun because of a lie you made.....if you tolld the child that there was no santa...the child wouldnt look forward to Christmas as much as before and he would have less christmas spirit. Ever since i was like 3, i would never believe in the easter bunny, my parents were just straight out telling me that. If every parent told their child that there was no Santa Claus, the children would look forward to the presents more than the actual Christmas Spirit.

it gives them hope for something that has been proven wrong. did you know Albert Einstein was called a retard and seen as one that would never achieve what he has in his time? hope kept him going.

Why do we intend to lie to our younger, more gullible generation? Why do we do it? Is it so hard to just tell them straight out? It doesn't necessarily make a difference. They're gonna find out later in life and it doesn't make a difference! They're still going to get that G.I. Joe for X-mas, that Easter Basket for Easter, and a bunch of fat from Ronald McDonald... Thoughts? Because when we look back on our childhoods and remember how much fun it was believing in all of that. There was, for a short time, a bit more magic in the world. How many of us regret believing in these things or wish that we had never been told? We grow up, and move on, but that magic is still there in the memories, more so for me when I think of the effort my dad went through so that I could have it. Me and my sisters have out grown Santa and the Easter Bunny, but we still enjoy getting our Santa presents and chocolate rabbit surprises.
EDIT: Also, I do believe in faeries, I do, I do! *claps hands* xd

I think it's because we want them to have fun while they can... When they find out, holidays aren't as exciting anymore. I do think that you have to tell them by age 10 though. I mean a 15 year old who still believes in the easter bunny is just... Sad.

I love lying too my kids about that stuff because it lets there imagination run... plus too see there eyes light up when they think that santa or the easer bunny came and left them a present makes them feel special... And when they get older I hope they realize how much work and fun their parents had wanting to make them feel special smile ... So in the end its a white lie 3nodding

My perspective on it: Its to see that glint in the child's eye, the joy within them, to see them revel in the mysteries of life. It part, it is because the partent(s) wish that they were that innocent once again, but at the same time, keeping the innocence within the child for as long as possible. Yes, it is a sad thing, I will not doubt, but think about it, our (U.S.) society has lived this way for many generations, and if a preschooler (sterotypical, with the "normal" way to grow up) came on to the play ground and started spurting during said holidays were all false, and that thier parents (I.E.: Mom and Dad or whomever they were living with) were behind the ruse, wouldn't that be cause enough to spark a child's interest into thinking otherwise. Following that, on the ride home, or once they got home they asked thier elders if what Little Johnny (Call child mentioned above this) said on the playground was true. They would deny it, doubtlessly, and thus inevitably excommunicate Little Johnny from all the fun for he would be called a lier. No?
Besides, its a harmless, white lie that can easily be explained later in life.

Santa isn't real? No! It must be tradition. We must make up lies so that little kids are...Happy? I'm not sure....But then there are times that you tell a kid the truth and they break down...How sad.

lying to children can go both ways. because sometimes parebts tell constructive lies. like telling a child that santa puts the presents under the tree and the tooth fairy puts your money under thier pillow is constructive. it gives kids something to believe in. and in some cases makes children behave better. most children are afraid that if they dont behave santa wont bring them any presents. but if you go as far as telling a child he or she will get eaten by a monster if they are bad then that is just wrong. therr is no reason to scare a kid. some people grow up with really bad problems because of lies like that.
