Angry much?

Is it just me or do atheists have a preconceived notion of being angry individuals? If so, how can we correct it, without actually backing down from what we believe?

I've never really heard of people viewing us as angry individuals, but I can see how it could go hand in hand with the idea that we're immoral and untrustworthy... O.o

Despite the fact that, on average, atheists have higher IQs then strongly religious people <3

Well not many people think I'm angry, but most people assume I'm christian.

There is nothing wrong with anger. I'm just afraid that its a trait becoming linked to the atheist lifestyle and name. Which makes it easier to dismiss our concerns and opinions when we voice them.

Personally, I don't think the general populace that I come into contact with see me as an angry person, but that's because I don't openly state my nonreligious stance.

I hear and read about these outspoken atheists and most times I also get the feeling that they are being portrayed as angry people.

We have a right to be angry because of stupid notions that have been ingrained into the religious peoples heads. They hold are society back.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. It only takes a few to make a stereotype. neutral Personally, I don't fit that description. Most people see me as more depressed and moody, but that's mostly from family issues. My close friends think I'm evil, but it doesn't bother me 'cause they are too.

Very true.

The reason why is that.. after a certain amount of time.. say 4 or 5 posts explaining just why the second law of thermodynamics doesn't mean what they think it does...

Im viewed as an angry person because my society tries to shove their religion down my throat
So I get pissed off
And then I usually go into debate
And then we usually have to stop for some random reason
I am a die-hard Atheist, but where I live, thats not exactly good
Im still very open about it
And people get angry at me for what I say
In turn, I get angry at them for saying Im wrong and giving no reason why
But, most Atheists aren't angry people
Just misunderstood
