Birthdays should not be just about cake, ice cream, and gifts. It should be about celebrating life, discovery, things learned, things unlearned, family, hope, and love.

The next time you serve cake and ice cream; eat it slowly and be thankful for it. Truly enjoy every bite and think of all those who can't afford a cake or ice cream or who can't eat them.

The next time you open a gift or choose a gift for someone; do it with love, compassion, and sincerity. Put a lot of thought into it. Don't let it be a last minute thing. Savor that moment and remember those who can't afford to buy a gift, or who don't have any friends to give them a gift.

Celebrate by simply being alive. There are those who cannot celebrate their birthday because they had their life taken before they could live to share in the joy of another year.

If you truly want to appreciate life or your birthday, just look upon a newborn and take peace and comfort because you were once a newborn just like that one and a part of it is still within you.
