Little Things Each Person Can Do

The dinosaurs are returning...

Obviously this title isn't quite as amazing as some.

But I think it goes for a point that any atheist, or person living with common sense for that matter, could be curious about.

I've been wondering what small things can a person do in their daily lives to help support causes such as Atheist equality, reduction/elimination of religion, and other things that improve the stereotypes and rights of Atheists and other kinds of non-believers.

...and they want their oil back.

Spreading information, mainly. The biggest tool the religious right have is ignorance of the truth, so take this away from them, and they're powerless. Why do you think so many religious leaders tell their flock of mindless sheep not to ask questions, or even suggest the possibility that they're wrong? As corny as it may sound, knowledge is power!

Our overall goal should be promoting equality and reducing stereotypes. That overall goal has a couple of key parts below.

#1: Promote positive atheism! Not to say the abrasiveness of people like Hitchens and Harris isn't necessary, but it goes a long way to show religious people that we're actually people they can get along with. If you really want to make an impression, stand up for religious freedom for everyone else too, even if you don't share their beliefs, be a champion for people's rights and stand up against one group discriminating against another in any situation. One of the biggest misunderstandings about outspoken atheists is that we want to take away the right to religion or the right to pray in schools. Keep stressing that they can keep their beliefs and pray in school, but prayer shouldn't be school sanctioned since it's clearly leaving out other religions as well as putting pressure on you.

#2: Eliminate the need for religion! If we aim at removing the reason people feel the need to be superstitious then religion will fade away in the future. Education above all, keep reading and learning and watch the education system to make sure the leaders of the future aren't getting indoctrinated by mythologies and superstitions. Our aim shouldn't be to legislate away religion, it'll add fuel to the flames. Instead, lets make sure education is what it should be: teaching people to question everything.

I agree, but I would put more emphasis on the first one, the second one relies too much on the competence of humanity as a whole to work.

Really, now? You'd be willing to reduce/eliminate religion from others lives to bring equality to atheists? Have we grown so selfish to think that our beliefs are above those of the religious and therefore we should take priority and majority over them? Like someone said earlier, try winning equality in rights, not numbers and win it for everyone.

Could you imagine your reaction had you witnessed religious individuals postulating about how they could go about eliminating/reducing atheism with their small acts? Come on now, you're not winning us any fans. Just coexist, it's that simple.
