The Black Phoenix

(Here's Starter #2! I hope you like it)!





Plot:

It was several centuries ago, in the Eastern Province, when this legend was born. Allow me to reveal to you that legend... If you please.

One day, a phoenix was born that was much unlike the other phoenixes of the Arrid Wastes. It was much faster, and stronger, and larger than the others of its kind. Its eyes shone brightly, and its feathers were as brilliant as gemstones against the desert sun.

Sadly, this would not last... It seemed that the Hidden City's residential Cult was quite fond of this bird. They admired its power and beauty, and wished to have it for their own. They traveled to the mountainside and gathered around its nest, and one of the members forced a Black Gem into the bird's chest. Though, they were evil, and, in their attempt to capture the majestic beast, it changed... Its feathers turned to the blackest onyx, and the bird itself went mad. The Cult fled from it, and retreated to their City beneath the sand, whilst the bird was free to live on... From that day forth, it terrorized the inhabitants of the Arrid Wastes. Though, for years, it would remain solitary in the Fatal Tors...

Naught but 40 years later, however, a young girl was playing in the sands of the Arrid Wastes, just outside of Eden's gates. She noticed that her favorite Nienna had gone missing. The girl called out for her, but to no avail. She wandered farther and farther from her home, and the sun was beginning to set. The girl looked back at her city and decided that she had gone far enough, and made up her mind to continue the search another time.

No sooner had the girl turned around did she hear an odd whistle. Suddenly, the sun disappeared behind the distant mountains, and the air cooled rapidly. Another whistle echoed through the darkness. Shivers ran up and down her spine, as she turned around to see where it could have originated. She found no culprit, in the shadow of night which surrounded her. She shivered again, and decided to hurry home. The girl broke off in a run, and the whistle rang through several more times. Tears ran down her cheeks, as fear enveloped her.

Suddenly, a screech rang through the night, and the flapping of wings could be heard. The girl ran as fast as her tiny legs could carry her, but it was too late. She looked behind her to see two large, glowing yellow eyes. She screamed... And then, she was gone.


That is how the legend began. Many have tried to kill the Black Phoenix, but, because it is a Phoenix, it is immortal... always being reborn from its own ashes, and healing its wounds to haunt the villagers and kill the warriors that face it.

The only way that it could be stopped is if someone were to remove the Gem from it that had driven it mad all of those years ago... But no one has been able to discover the secrets that the Cult had used to drive the Gem into the beast. And perhaps.. no one ever will...
