Come on now, there's got to be SOMEONE out there who likes this guy. Like, even his personal life was so interesting. Who couldn't love an overdramatic, opium-addict, timpani-playing composer. heart
My favourite song by him is probably his 'Recitative and Prayer', from 'Grand Symphony For Band'. I've never found a copy of it, but I played it for my university audition and I really liked it.
And of course, there's Symphony Fantastique. My favourite movement has to be the last one, 'Song of A Witches Sabbath'. It just has such amazing trombone parts.

I never knew he played the timpani!
But yes, great composer. Ever listen to Harold in Italy?

Once or twice, but only with it playing in the background. I've not yet taken the time to sit down and just listen to it.

I love listening to Berlioz's Requiem. You should definitely check it out.
