Ok the time has come to ask the age old question. While reading LOTR: ROTK what or who did you think Gothmog was? Personally I thought he was just a commading orc...a mutant one though, sure rolleyes I just thought I would ask you all yours thoughts and maybe some passages to back it up. I will post Gothmog's ROTK passage. Quote: "There they had been mustered for the sack of the city and the rape of Gondor, waiting on the call of their Captain. He now was destroyed; but Gothmog the lieutenant of Morgul had flung them into the fray; Easterlings with axes, and Variags of Khand, Southrons in Scarlet, and out of far Harad black men like half trolls with white eyes and red tongues."

Right or Wrong, I invisioned him as one of two things, an orc (which at the time looked like a Warcraft II orc since I had had no previous encounters with the depiction of orcs) or a corrupt human.

I'd always thought he was an old Orc, like one that Melkor made kind of old.

I always assumed he was an Orc. Just bigger and a little smarter than your average Orc.

Ork or ork hybrid, high rank, intelligent enough to step in and take over after Eowyn bumped off the Angmar King. Orks weren't stupid, just poorly constructed before being animated by the wizardry that produced the Rings.

Inbred orcs with funny defects? I dunno.
I always thought of him as an orc, I guess. But he wasn't pink. xd Or perhaps an Uruk-Hai, the first that was made, perhaps?

Ork hybrid is experiment with ork and elf, human, and/or dwarf genetics (same project as originally produced orks) to partially 'correct' the shortcomings of bad ork bioengineering. Gothmog was probable ork/elf splice, maybe a little human as well.
Whether you use electricity and amino acid solutions like Doc Frankenstein/Mary Shelly, Prometheus cylinders like the AEON crew in Switzerland, that sheep in Scotland, or magick and alchemy as in the case of Sauron, genetics is genetics. They all use the twisted pair.

I thought he had a human form. Something along the lines of what Falathrim mentioned.
