Yes, religion (Christianity) has become too involved in politics. Most people in public offices believe in a magical invisible man that's nowhere to be seen, but is everywhere and reads all your thoughts and watches you take a s**t. That sorta makes me uncomfortable, a bit.

A while back (96' ish), I had a class on Islam. The thing that surprised me most about it was that for the Muslim nations, there is no difference between religion and politics... I never realized it before and it was a shock to me.

But now it has become pretty obvious that with any religion that claims to be the "One True" and professes to know how people should live their lives, will eventually interfere with and become hopelessly entangled with ruling governments unless there is some sort of protection against it. We have that kind of protection built into our constitution, and it has been attacked since before the ink was even dry on the parchment. But it takes people to defend it... constantly.

Religion has been intermingled with politics since the dawn of civilization so I really can't say this shocks me. Not to mention that there are still some theocracies out there.

However, what does irritate me is that it only seems to be the Christians who are really allowed into the political sector. Basically with them it's if you don't believe in the Christian god, then you can't hold a political office and can only watch as we rape the country by trying to force our ideals down everyone's throats. Now granted, that's not always the case, but the frequency of it is quite disturbing.

We do have safeguards against this in the Constitution, however I forgot that we invalidated the Constitution a long time ago and turned it into a doormat so that political a**-monkeys (not just the religious zealots) could use it to wipe their feet off before they completely destroy everything we ever stood for.

Religion has absolutely NO place in politics! I don't want people making laws that limit me in any way based on religious beliefs! If religious people don't want to but beer an a sunday...then DON'T ******** BUY BEER ON A SUNDAY!!! Let other people do it though! Not everyone follows the same religion, so don't force it onto people through politics! Sorry, but this subject pisses me right off...

What are you referring to?
Last I checked, our bill of rights was still active, and the constitution was still up and running well.

I'd like some examples of these "frequent" events of politicians shoving religion down our throats.

Oh, and did you not realize that the people choose the president?
Their congressmen?
Their representative?
If there's anyone to blame for christians being in power, is it really the politicians themselves, or rahter those who voted for them?

The Patriot Act of course....damn near invalidated the Constitution.

-The numerous and ongoing attempts to overturn Roe V. Wade
-The numerous reports in the news of counties and states trying to ban gay marriage. I know in 2006, Virginia amended its constitution to outlaw gay marriage and prevent gay couples, whether married or not from owning property or adopting children

I know those aren't great examples and don't illustrate my point at all and I know I'm not clearly not as intelligent as any of the other people in the forum, but to be honest, I don't pay attention to this stuff anymore or anything else in the news for that matter. I'm tired of reading about which celebrity was caught without panties on, how the Redskins can't catch a football, the war in Iraq or the sad state of our economy.

I know the people choose the president and everyone in congress and I would have to say that it's probably a little of both there. Also, yes I'm fully aware that I can't make a good argument, no matter how hard I try (actually I wouldn't say what I said was an argument, more like an angry tirade) so don't bother pointing any of that out. You know what...perhaps it's just better if I just stay out of discussing religion and politics because as the past has shown, I have rarely, if ever, made a good point/case/argument.

Certainly.
The whole Pro-life thing is centered around religion. All sorts of scientific research is put on hold to cut off because of religion's hold on laws.
Also pornography, prostitution, drugs, gay marriage, prayer in school, creation vs evolution... The list goes on.

Well, at least America isn't like China or Australia yet, with internet censorship and such. Yet.

I'm sure that all the Christian politicians will find a way, and then end up being shot down by the alarming amount of people who need their pronz.

Damn straight.

If you think about it though, roughly ninety percent of America's population is Christian - sorry if that is incorrect... but it is true that majority is Christian of some sort. What I am trying to say is that the people of America are more likely to reject someone if they aren't of some Christian belief or something similar.

If Obama were Muslim, Jewish, or something then he most likely wouldn't even have made it into presidency.

Religion is intertwined within everything anymore... even propaganda - which was actually pretty much created by the church to be honest.
