I know that most people talk about their favorite composer but conductors are cool too. So tell me who your favorites are.

Yeah aren't they? It is really cool to watch some of these guys conduct. My favorite contemporary conductor is Seiji Ozawa.

I like conductors that get into the music as well. Often times, school bands need the exact beats. I enjoy a conductor that makes me think about the music through their conducting.

Dr. Ricky Brooks
He's the head conductor for the wind ensemble at UCA. He is an incredible conducter. Have you ever had a guest conducter visit your band, or you went to like an all region band and the conductor used a style you were completely unfamiliar with and you hated it. Well with Dr. Brooks, it doesn't matter who you are, he's the perfect conductor. And he has an incredible ear. He was able to pick out individuals in our band and tell them exactly what they need to do. Whether its fixing their embouchure, or repositioning your instrument. He was able to fix almost every mistake in one of our songs for contest in one rehearsal. And he's very into what he does.

I have had a conductor who just drove me up the wall and believe me I am very tolerable. Just this one conductor drove me nuts. Well thank goodness he was only a guest. He swore that I was playing sharp when I was in tune, and it was the girl in front of me. Well after having us tune he apologized but it was really embarrassing.
