My word was 'perfect', and I'm using the second definition: Excellent or complete beyond practical or theoretical improvement.

'Perfect' is a war we fight till the end
One we cannot win, nor afford to lose
There is always something to mend
And its needs, we cannot refuse

'Perfect' is a gift that drives us
and makes us perform at our prime
Without this need, we would not fuss
And ignore its want of our time

'Perfect' is an insatiable need
Be it for a grade or a position
Fueled by a sin, one we call greed
It boosts our own ambition

'Perfect' may manage to push some away
but as for me? it motivates me everyday

It's nice, not an emo poem! Huzzah for you!

Don't be afraid of free verse poetry, though. Sometimes rhyme schemes can inhibit your piece. I would either tweak or get rid of the rhyming. If you'd like to tweak it, try reading it aloud. You want rhymed poetry to really flow.
