Fog Bound

Naming Dream
She was lost. She felt like she’d been trudging for hours in the dark mist. She peered ahead trying to see a break in the fog. She changed direction whenever she thought she could see a path where the fog might be thinning. No matter which way she went the fog seemed to grow thicker around her.
Finally, she stopped. She was bound on all sides by thick fog. She could no longer see a way to go. Looking behind her, she couldn’t even see the scales on her back. Her head drooped. The fog gathered around her knees hid her mire-covered fetlocks. Did she dare to just keep walking blindly, hoping to find a way out? She closed her eyes. This aloneness frightened her. Her mind searched for answer.
No longer depending on her sight to guide her, she became aware of her other senses. Soothing songs and twitters of birds reached her ears. Familiar smells of moist vegetation and rotting wood filled her nostrils. She could feel Mother’s heartbeat beneath her hooves. The warm moist air grazed her tongue as she whispered the name.
She was not alone. Mother was here to keep her safe. She lowered her exhausted body to the muck. She felt safe in Mother’s softness as the boggy mud oozed up around her. Even the fog, once menacing, now felt comforting as it wrapped its moist blanket around her. This was her journey’s end and now she could sleep.
