alright here's my problem, i read in the Wii instruction booklet that i need to plug something into my PC in order to play Wii online, but i thought i could connect my Wii directly to my modem (therefore directly to the internet) can someone give me a hand? because my computer is broken... and from what i heard, no computer or WiFi, no online play... there has to be a way to connect it directly to the internet... any help?

You need a wireless router or the USB dongle.

I'm not sure if they still sell it, but they should.

I still see it around.

It's a device that let's you hook up the Modem's Ethernet wire into it, and you plug the USB wire that comes from the other end directly into one o the wii's two USB ports.

Wii LAN Adapter is the name of one I see in nearly every GameStop store.

Whatever you do, don't buy the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector.

They're rather short-lived. neutral

Really? o_o
I bought the Nintendo Wifi Connector, and never got a chance to use it. xD
We got a router the same day, and I ended up giving it to my lover. <_<
I wonder if she ever even used it. Oh well.

I hear wireless is slower than direct LAN connection, anyway. Most of the time.

Yeah, they're pieces of crap. I'm on my third, and I only use Wi-Fi once in a blue moon. sweatdrop

I think some stores carry them, but it would most likely just be easier to order it. If you want something very reliable, just get a wireless router from a store like Staples or something. They may be more expensive and a pain in the a** to hook up, but in the end, I think it will save more headaches than Nintendo's dongle.

I have trouble figuring that out too. My Wii's in the basement, and it's about maybe a few yards (like three or five. I'm not sure) from my computer, but does it matter how far away your Wii is from your computer in order to play online?

Maybe you just have bad luck with them? I've had mine for about 6 months now, and it still works.

more distance = lower signal = more time it takes to transfer data = slower interwebz

LAN Adapter can be found in Game specialty stores (G-stop and the like) or sometimes electronics stores (Circuit City, Best buy, Etc.)

If you do get a Wireless Router (best option) you would still need to connect it to a computer to set up the network and program your passcode, but if you get a Linksys it should be ready to go right out of box. (no passcode though)

Mine worked fine when I had it but I got a router because it has a farther range.
