Spyro the Dragon (the original on the playstation 1) is one of the most light and cheerful games that I have ever played. You play as the main character spyro as he tries to save the 5 dragon worlds from the evil of gnasty gnorc (Those that have played some of the many sequels may reconize the name gnasty gnorc, but in this one he's the main villain.), by releasing all the dragons you find from their emerald statues. Your partner sparx the dragonfly helps you along the way by providing a total of 3 extra hit points before you KO, and giving you access to many fun minigames. In addition to releasing dragons, you also must collect dragon eggs (many of which were stollen by the extremely fast egg thieves), and jewels (a set number in each area). There are many save points that you can jump back and forth between (as the "red fairy", just one of many, pops up to save you), so it's very easy to pick a spot to restart from (though the game probably won't kill you very often). You can't really fly yet, so you must travel from one world to the next using hot-air balloons, but luckily it's not a one-way trip. You can travel back and forth and all over the place anyway you like. Each world is controlled by a particular dragon family (artisans, peace keepers, magic crafters, beast makers, dream weavers), and you must save each one from the infestation of gnorcs, before going to gnasty's world to defeat him. If you get all of the items along the way you gain access to a very fun treasure room (that sadly ends way too soon).

The games controls are simple and easy, and the graphics (if a bit blocky), are beautiful and well designed. The story wraps you up in itself very quickly, and before you know it, your having tons of fun. This game is a great game for any collection and a must for any fan of spyro.
