I got this one at UTM Honor Band.
"Music is like finance, you are either an asset or a liability." -Bruce Dinkins-
Mr. Dinkins was our director for the top band at honor band this year, wind ensemble. I thought that quote was so TRUE!!
He's a very down to earth, blunt man. He got his PhD at Julliard. He is SO my hero! And he doesn't even know it. :[ I didn't even get to tell him thanks and goodbye after the concert... Oh, well. Important people=busy people!

I love these quotes
When you learn something from people, or from a culture, you accept it as a gift, and it is your lifelong commitment to preserve it and build on it. Yo-Yo Ma
I'm not likely to forget where I've been and what I've done and learned. I think it's just as important to play new instruments as to play new pieces. The old ones are getting scarcer and the new ones more and more wonderful. Yo-Yo Ma
I've been traveling all over the world for 25 years, performing, talking to people, studying their cultures and musical instruments, and I always come away with more questions in my head than can be answered. Yo-Yo Ma
It took me way beyond what I knew, into places of which I was totally scared, but as I became less frightened, I welcomed new ways of thinking and approaching something. It made me an infinitely richer person, and I think a better musician. Yo-Yo Ma

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just, and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate and eternal form." -Plato

I got one from Brahms. It isn't word for word since i can't remember it word for word but here it goes.
I am not a composer who is a pianist but a pianist who happens to be a composer.

"The piano is a divinely inspired instrument, a mirror held up to its player's soul that captures the light and shadow of the performer and reflects them back to the listener."
--David Lanz
