Wow this is an interesting question. I dont think you can answer it really.
Technically, the mind and soul are the same thing. The word soul being derived from the latin "psyche" I believe which was derived from "psychē" in greek. And of course psyche is what we still use for mind. Even though the evolved English term is actually soul.
Anyways back to your question...
Is music good for your mind? There is a quote that says "Music is what feelings sound like". In my opinion music is simply the outward expression of literal feelings, it is in fact what they sound like. You can actually hear love, sadness, happiness, fear, anger, anxiety, and on and on.
If music is simply just feelings heard out loud, then we can ask ourselves this...
Are feelings good for you? Thats a tough one to answer if even possible. Feelings are what make us human, their what make us a living being. I guess some feelings are good and some are bad, but collectively we wouldnt be human without them.
If we can't be human without our feelings, how can we be human without music?
If music is simply just the feelings expressed so we can hear them. ================== So in my opinion music isnt bad for you or good for you, its just another piece of a huge puzzle that help make us human. I dont believe we could live without it. We express through music. Music make us... well... us.

Music is something special and people ask me this question all the time. Music is another language. You see, every person in the world speaks many languages, but we all understand one, universal language, Music. Music lives and it breathes. It can help build a nation, or rip it apart. Music has an ability to touch a person's soul, wishes, dreams and even our deepest thoughts (all apart of the same thing, the beautiful mind). For many years people have felt the raw emotion of music, and music has spoken, through the great minds of its muses. So in reality you are asking me, if it is okay to understand and even love this language. Personally, it makes us unique, special and with out it I would go nuts!
*Unless you already think that I am nuts? I hope not. Shoot!! I lost my marbles! Where on earth did I put those things? LOL.*

hm, actually, I wrote a short essay on that, and would the asnwer depend on what type of music you're hearing? if you were listening to soft, soothing music, your mind and sould would be soothed, wouldn't it? if you were lsiting to angry music, you wouldn't feel too happy, I'd guess. Music is a form of communicating ideas, at least that's from my point of view.

I'm going to make this very blunt. Music is a part of me. It's in my soul, I think about it all the time, I would be miserable without it (unless I had never known about it, then I don't know) but I would not be the same person if not for music. It affects me. It's like a drug only a lot better for me. biggrin I can't live without it. My mind and sould would be different without it.

Wow, your question cannot be answered by simply saying yes or no. My answer for you is "it depends on what kind of music you listen to". Get the idea?
In the music world, there are so many kinds of music. Let's name a few: Rock, Classical, Rhythm and Blues (R&B), Pop, etc. If you want yourself to be somewhat attuned with your mind and soul, I prefer you listen to classical musics or any music that conveys a good message (the lyrics are not offensive, but says something good). I learned this from watching the documentary video, "Evils of Rock Music". my father has this video, and it tells us that rock musics are where the evil spirits take place in the message and it will be conveyed in your mind. They say that when you listen long enough for Rock Musics (Musics that conveys bad messages to people), it can affect your attitude and way of living, and therefore your life. So if I were you, I'd choose the right kind of music.
Now, to your question...
It's truly up to you where you are comfortable, as long as the message is good and the one you are listening to is worth your while. wink
Hope it helps!
NOTE: Sometimes listening to musics are not the best bet you can get to be good for the mind and soul. Sometimes playing musical instruments (Violin for me) can even make your mind and soul better. Trust me. It works. haha! wink

Music is filling soul with emotions. When listening to music you can see things in different lights: happy music makes you see everything around you so bright and you forget all your problems. When you listen to sad music, you are feeling nostagic and thinking of the days long time ago, which now seems so far away...

I'm gonna be soo nerdy, but i'll keep it short wink :
Two things are true 1.) Music, when simplified on a physical level, is simply vibrations passing through air at various frequencies and 2.) all atoms (even subatomic particles) vibrate.
Sound, and thus music, has always existed and always will as long as there is matter and energy. In a way music is the most natural and basic part of existence and can be witnessed in undulating waves, trees waving in a wind, and the human voice. Technically music is everywhere, even within us (think heartbeat). I can not imagine how something so pervasive can not be good, even for the supranatural soul.

Gjornia X I can not imagine how something so pervasive can not be good, even for the supranatural soul. Hearing loss is bad. Music is not good when it causes hearing loss.
