The rain pattered against the glass dome ceiling above me, making a soft tinkering sound as the droplets exploded on impact. After watching the raindrops seemingly plummet towards me, then seeing their frenzied descent end by the protective glass roof, I moved my eyes to the outside world.
From this vantage point on the second story floor of this gothic mansion situated in the mountaintops that I reside in (although not alone of course), I have an amazing view of the lush garden outside. The moon was full, surrounded by murky clouds, yet with bright pinpricks of light shining through. The moon cast an pearly, or ominous depending on your point of view, light over the garden below, causing the spreading ripples on the central fountains water to emit a golden light. The damp leaves shined, the light illuminating their droopng tips. But the rain and moon also caused the crooked trees at the foremost point of the garden to look deadly. Their branches looked like clawed hands waiting to ensnare an unsuspecting victim, and their shape looked like cloaked figures seemingly one with the shadows. Yet the rain, the rain, was the most beautiful and sinister. The droplets sparkled like diamonds, or like the glint of light reflecting off a murderers' knife; as the moons' light pierced the droplets through.
I jumped in surprise as cool arms wound around my waist and hot breath hit the side of my ear. I had been so caught up in my observation of the rain falling towards the ground that I hadn't noticed someone entering the room. I smiled, knowing that this person would not hurt me, and relaxed into their protective and soothing embrace. Lips placed themselves on my uncovered neck as an apology for startling me, and arms pulled me closer.
I looked outside the window after taking their hand. I took in the new beauty that was revealed to me, my nightmares chased away by the comforting presence behind me, leaving behind the fairy-tale like view. I could appreciate the view now, as I have everything I need to survive with me.
